Default Good sites to start a blog on?

I was thinking of perhaps starting a blog, where I could perhaps blog about Hockey, sports, etc.

Can anyone recommend a good site to use?

I like Wordpress over Blogspot myself.

We're actually redesigning our site and it looks like we'll use the backend of Wordpress, that's how much I like it.

Wordpress is great for blogging software. You can get a free account at wordpress.com and try it out if you like. The downside to that is your domain name would be myblogname.wordpress.com.

If you want a more professional-looking URL (e.g. www.myblogname.com), you can register a domain and get a hosting solution with Wordpress blogging software pre-installed from a company like Lunarpages or Dreamhost. I've used both in the past, and setting up Wordpress on either is super-simple. IIRC, hosting plans with unlimited bandwidth go for like $5/month or something stupid cheap these days.

Another vote for Wordpress. I really like their modular pricing structure, so you can start out with the free version and for relatively small incremental upgrade costs, add features as you want to use them.

Like the previous posters above me have said, Wordpress and Blogger are the two big ones. I use blogger only because I heard about them first and like how easy and user friendly it is. It's 100% free including hosting. You can purchase your own domain name for around $10 a year from a site like GoDaddy if you want your own URL. I highly recommend your own domain name if you're serious about blogging.

I've played around with Wordpress and liked it a lot and would probably prefer Wordpress if I was starting out. There seems to be a lot more features and addons that you can do to customize your blog. The only downside that I saw is you have to pay for your own hosting which should only cost around $5-$20 per month depending on your traffic.
