Yeah, this is a common complaint with the new Shaw boxes.

Try this to find out if the profanity filter is on: hook up a USB microphone to the rear of the box. Turn it to a channel you have heard the filtering on (such as the one you have watched South Park on). Turn up the volume to a typical listening level.

Now try different words that you feel may be filtered. Make sure you say them with authority, and try to say them loud. You must say them well above conversational level due to the USB technology. You should hear ONLY the bleep coming back at you. If you get no bleep, you have to say them louder. Don't be afraid to really yell the expletives at your TV, because you need to know if the filter is engaged or not.

If you can confirm this way that the filter is engaged, call Shaw. You can demonstrate that you have the filter by using the same words on the phone. Try to remember all the words you have heard bleeped out and give them the list at the very start of the phone call. They have to manually whitelist all these words. Just start listing them off; they'll know what the call is about that way.

They should be able to disengage the filter over the phone for you. You will know they have turned it off if you can hear expletives coming from the Shaw representative. They should also have the filter turned on for your phone, so you will know it has been disengaged if you can hear the same words clearly from the representative. Insist that they say the words directly and loudly to you. If they refuse, tell them you are a paying customer and you insist they repeat the words to you.

I hope that helps!

Surprisingly the shaw CSR's are really quite used to profanity.

Given the drop in their level of service over the last few years straining to keep up with demand, I'm not really surprised.

If this doesn't exist why are things that are weren't censored a week ago now being censored.

I've seen these episodes before on Comedy and now they're all censored. I assumed it was the box since pre-box it didn't happen and the change was sudden.

It censored 'vagina' for ####'s sake.

Are you watching them at a different time or on a different channel? I think they only air the uncensored versions during the late night broadcasts and only Comedy Network airs the uncensored ones.

If you have a PVR recording set up, for example, it might record at a different time than you used to watch it.

If you get HBO, try to find an airing of Deadwood. That would let you know if you had a profanity filter pretty quickly.

I was watching it from 9 pm till like 2 am. At first I thought it was just the show, then repeats of show's I'd watched within the past two weeks came on and were censored.

Well, at first I was leery, but apparently the technology is there.

Can't believe this thread has gone on this long without OP calling Shaw, or even telling us what digital box model he actually has so we could look into it.
