Default The Greatest Rugby Player of All Time Retires

Yeah hard to argue.

Although, he isn't my favourite (Michael Jones come on down), there is no denying he is in a league of his own.

Ummm, you forgot to add he was voted the most desirable man in New Zealand in a 2012 Kiwi sex survey.

Seriously though, he was a great player and someone I loved to hate. I was lucky enough to see him play a few games for the Saders and once for the ABs. Such an incredible combination of toughness and intelligence.

Just re-watching the 2011 World Cup Final.

Damn Richie, what a player!

Is he just retiring Internationally or entirely?

I met him once, about a year and a half ago when he came into my cafe for breakfast. He was very polite and friendly with all the staff and other customers. I regret not asking for a picture as I'm sure he would have been OK with it.

Entirely, it was already well known that the world cup final would be his last game as an All Black.

That game still frustrates me as the ABs did not play well and benefited from some home field calls. In comparison their performance this year was an unbeatable rugby master class.

Interestingly out of all the times I saw McCaw play, his team lost every game. This is my favourite one:
Spoiler!

As awesome as it was for the Reds to actually win something I believe if not for the Christchurch earthquake the Crusaders would have been champions. Their stadium was destroyed and they ended up playing a home game at Twickenham. Also, one winnable game was cancelled and called a draw which cost them a first round bye. This meant they had to travel from Nelson to Cape Town to Brisbane to make the final. In hindsight it was an incredible performance for a team with no home stadium to make the finals.
