Default Traffic tickets to Cost More

so the Alberta gov't is going to start charging for search fees related to traffic tickets and some folks seem up in arms over this - while I don't like paying more for anything, it is easy to side step the fee by not breaking a traffic law.......

does nyone have any strong feelings the other way?

Yes, but these threads/arguments have pretty much run their course on CP. "Blah blah I HATE tickets and cops are annoying" "just don't break the law blah blah!" That goes back and forth for a few pages, than it dies down until the next thread pops up.

It's easy to say don't break the law and you don't have to pay, but the size of fees are getting ridiculous. People will have to decide on whether to pay the rent or pay for a speeding ticket.

My mom's maiden name is Nyone. I'll ask her.

No biggie. I drive like a sane person, plus I'm numb to it all now because of the property tax increase, Gas price hike, Coffee prices soaring.....etc, etc,

Are the actual tickets going to cost more?

I thought this cost was absorbed by the searcher? Wasn't the City of Calgary complaining that this was an unexpected cost for their budget?

As a taxpayer I would hope that the burden is passed on to those breaking the law.

This is a $15 surcharge for name to address look up in the provincial registry. This is nothing but a database look up which would cost maybe a penny. This nothing but a cash grab which will cost the local police forces a lot of money if they need to look this up. This mean if a police officer needs to look up a license plate regardless of an offense a charge of $15 will be incurred. Which means high property taxes for the people in Alberta. Pure and simple CASH GRAB!!! A $12 Million cash grab from City accounts into the province. It's becoming very clear every passing week the Tories need to be kicked from office next provincial election.

I feel like an old man at 29. Seems like everything costs more every time I turn around.

^^ Stop turning around, it's costing the rest of us a fortune. :P

Seriously though, they're going to hike the rates whether the public wants them too or not. The debate is (pretty much) pointless.
