Sounds rather gruesome to say the least.
Seems to be a lot of accidents with the train the last few years.

I heard the trains were backed up and decided to drive in instead. Probably a gong show going on to enter the core via transit.

As I drove through downtown this morning there were lots of people walking in from the Vic Park station and the Bridgeland station. This was around 0645.

Yeah there were no trains on 7th Avenue and apparently the body was discovered very early this morning and the transit mall was cordoned off so that no trains made it to the NW from the south (where the trains are stored overnight) for the first runs of the day. Shuttle buses thoughout the NW line and then shuttle buses going from downtown from Victoria Park/Stampede and Bridgeland stations to connect to the NE and south lines.
I was taking the bus to the train downtown to transfer and head out of downtown, heard the call over the radio about the delays and had to take an alternate routing using buses and amazingly I arrived at my destination only 3 or 4 minutes later than I normally would have.
Lots of people will be delayed though, especially if coming from the NW.

That sounds just gruesome. Pretty amazing he survived...I'd have to presume its lower leg, anything upper would be just a blood bath.

I've never heard of so many people getting hit by trains in one place. It's a f***ing train! How can you not see it coming?!

Put the train underground downtown already. Less accidents, less traffic issues, more regular scheduling.
Though the costs would be quite high for such a project now. Probably won't happen for another good 30 years or more.

Do we serioulsy need to put the trains underground?
I mean honestly, how hard is it to NOT get hit by a train.
We don't live by the ocean, so a train is going to be pretty much the largest moving thing you'll encounter on a daily basis. Not only that, but the damn thing is always in the same place, and has big old metal rails that let you know where it's coming from.
That's why I don't have a lot of sympathy for adults who get hit by a train, it's not like the thing should be able to surprise you.

I'm a little confused by the thread title.
What do you mean by found? Like he got his leg run over and just sat on the tracks for hours until someone found him?

At 3:30 am I would say the likelyhood is quite small.

Kind of makes me think that he must have been under the influence of something, or suffering from mental illness. could it have been a suicide attempt?

In some cases sure, but there have been plenty of cases of normal folks getting hit by a train.
A year or two ago some chick got hit because she wasn't paying attention becasue she was listening to her iPod. Seriously? I cross the train tracks on 7th ave twice a day with my iPod in, and I've never even come close to getting hit by a train, and you know why? Because I'm not stupid, and headphones or not, I think it's a good idea to keep my head up crossing freakin' train tracks.
