Default LF Laptop? Netbook, Tablet?

My daughter is going overseas for a 4month trip as part of her studies at MRU. While there she needs to writeup reports and send them back via email.

As she has chosen an overseas opportunity(matches what she wants to do in the future) there is no salary that goes with the position. So I'm helping her with airfare etc.

Thus I'm looking for the most economical way to go for what she needs computer wise. Which is basically just a decently reliable ? that has Microsoft Word.

I'm not exactly flush with cash at the moment either so cheaper(to an extent) equals better.

Anyone got any suggestions or something they would like to sell?

Economical? You should be able to find a decent used netbook for about $200.

Definitely get her a netbook as tablets are not fun to type on but get her input on it as well if she values portability or wants something more comfortable to type on. Netbooks range from ~8" to ~12".

I did just that. Found a good deal on Kijiji on a 10 inch netbook with Microsoft Office installed and various other software. Plus it was brand new which was nice as well.

She was very happy with it so that's a good thing.

if you can...maybe check out a macbook. I had an hp notebook when i went abroad and it blew to smithereins while i was gone, i was able to salvage it but i am relatively savvy with comps etc...

500...which is by no means "cheap" but if you toss some new ram in it, and wipe the harddrive it will run like new...

oh, and btw, you can get word from the bookstore at mount royal for like...70 bucks? i dunno, there is a student price though (i also attend mru)
