Default Gadhafi Armed his Troops and Mercenaries with Viagra

Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi sent his soldiers and mercenaries, armed with Viagra, to rape women as young as 12 in order to "humiliate" the men who are opposed to him, the health minister for the Libyan rebels told ABC News.

More than a dozen rape cases, documented by Dr. Nagi Barakat, prompted the International Criminal Court to accuse Gadhafi of using rapes as a weapon of war.

In muslim countries, rape could be basically a death sentence to many of these girls who may commit suicide because they are unmarriagable or ostrasized by the community.

Whatever Islamic groups support Ghadafi before now are probably going to distance themselves from him entirely. Rape is a heavy no-no in most branches of Islam.

I will be honest, I dont believe any piece of news out of Libya.

This has nothing to do with about protecting civilians, it all has to do about European access to oil.

Exactly.

There was no confirmation that Gaddafi had his troops kill civilian protestors indiscriminately. Robert Gates himself said it was not confirmed. Did some innocents die as collateral damage in the fight against the rebels? I'm sure some did..... That didn't stop the U.N. from using humanitarianism as a cover for military action though...

The so called "rebels" have been armed the entire time. This boils down to western interests interfering in a civil war. The rebels have hardcore jihadic islamists within their ranks, and the rebels also commit genocide on black Africans that work in Libya...

This is just NATO doing the dirty work for the multi-nationals corporations.

Libya is the economic crown jewel of Africa. They have free health care, free education, sudsidized housing, subsidized transportation etc.

On top of their vast oil reserves, Gaddafi has also developed one of the most impressive, sophisticated water-works project known as the great man made river to irrigate farms in the Sahara desert.

One other thing I found interesting is that Libya has business ties with China now (oil, communications)..and there was also talk of Russian business deals for rail lines....maybe a side benefit of this regime change is to stop China/Russia from getting a solid foothold on the resources there??

Here is an article from the Financial Times titled ....."Oil companies fear nationalization in Libya"
http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/67d1d...44feab49a.html

"Western oil companies operating in Libya have privately warned that their operations in the country may be nationalised if Colonel Muammer Gaddafi’s regime prevails."

I realize I'm opening a can of worms here, but in a culture where brides are purchased, women are subservient, and in the Koran warriors may freely claim the women in conquered territories, rape is not only condoned, but heartily encouraged.

and when exactly have we ever heard about the men who rape women being stoned to death in fundamentalist Islamic countries? it's always the woman that has the blame cast down on her while the men walk away scott free

Somehow I am not surprised at the two posts in this thread from mykalberta and mikey_the_redneck. They are entitled to their opinions of course and to their credit, they are in character as usual.

And I am not surprised that you wouldn't consider anything other than what gets talked about by the big news networks....

If you think all this military intervention is about humanitarian aid, democracy and the war on terror etc. with no deliberate side-benefits that is fine but you're free to be ignorant as well...

LOL - actually this makes a lot of scene. Like the weapons of mass destruction proven to not exist in Iraq. Tell something to gain support with out real proof. I fully believe that the profitability or money trail tells the story not the words that are said to the mass. The words or lies are means to an end and we (as the mass of people who can stop it) fall for it every time. We complain that news is BS but we still listen to it. These wars are for billionaires to make more billions. They are to control the money from all angles. The US is the first to fall, but at this rate we all are going to follow.

Do you think the rich care about you or anyone else? If they did, then why are we and millions of people in the crappy situation they find their self in. It's become a very scary world and we just seem to adapt and think it's normal to be this way.

The whole oil argument is ridiculous. 40 billion barrels isnt that much in the grand scheme of things. The Europeans already had access to the oil, via a pipeline to Italy.

Which they were happy with until the "arab spring" showed up in Libya. They couldn't publicly back a dictator so they went with the rebels.

I think they just misjudged the Colonel's resilience. (again)
