I was able to watch most of the marathon live on NBC Detroit. CBC cut away to cover the Shewfelt gold medal (understandably), but the marathon was the highlight of the Olympics so far. So much drama. The favorite from Britain had a meltdown and dropped out. The american suprised for bronze at the very end. The Japanese and Kenyan runners were close for 1st and 2nd for most of the race.
Did not need to see all the ladies puking at the end of the race. Maybe they could have a tent set-up where they can go do that in privacy.

The CBC faced a programming bottleneck yesterday. The women's marathon collided with track events in which Canadians figured prominently, and the conflicts weren't handled all that well.
The marathon is always a classic, but the women's event was special because it was the first time in 108 years the athletes were running the original modern Olympic route.
NBC set up the race by using the best part of an hour to report on the favourites and provide a history of the event and women's participation. The CBC, for some reason, felt the need to air a quarter-final water polo match not involving Canada. Then it went to a scene-setter before airing the start.
NBC stayed with the marathon from start to finish.
