Went to an afternoon showing of Rango at Chinook, and they had 3 rows of new Dbox seats installed. Rango didn't use the seats, but a 3 minute clip of Polar Express used them as a demonstration.
D-Box seats, which are available at a premium price, shake, shimmy, and rumble in sync with the on-screen action, allowing movie-goers to enjoy certain flicks with an added dimension of interactivity. The movements are subtle, can be dialed up or down, and only occur when necessary in a movie: for example, during a high-speed car chase, or a high action fight scene. To achieve this, D-Box personnel code participating movies frame-by-frame prior to its theatre release.
The deal will eventually see 120 D-Box seats added to 10 theatres in Canada over the next year.
"Our agreement with Cineplex has provided us with the means for sizeable growth of our advanced technology within the Canadian market, and further validates the appeal of our progressive business model," says Claude Mc Master, President and CEO of D-Box Technologies.
They also have 2 of them in the main lobby at chinook to the left of the esclator on the east side. I sat in a D-bag seat last week and watched the trailer for Battle LA, and half way though the trailer I lost all interest in the seat. It's bloody annyoing to me and I would not sit through a movie like that.
It's more of a gimmick in my opinion. People will try it for a move, but then probably go back to regular seats.
You will pay a premium as well. It will be $4 or $5 more to sit in these seats.
First 3d, now this?
I'm thinking i should stay away from theatres altogether.
The option to not go see a 3d film, or sit in these seats is readily available lol.
3D is awesome if done well, but out of the plethora of ones that came out last year, only 3 did it right. Avatar, Toy Story 3, and shockingly, Jackass 3D.
These seats are gimmicky, but I like the idea that going to the Theater should be as "special" as possible, it's hard to compete with a lot of home theater systems now. Especially considering at home I don't have to deal with that kid who wouldn't sit down or shut up and the fat mom who just didn't give a crap.
Awesome! With D-Box seats and 3D glasses, every movie is awesome! the movie going experience has been revolutionized; I don't even care what I'm watching anymore!

I hope these are released with The King's Speech, I should have asked just to see the reaction. Maybe they shake during each stutter?

I didn't think Tron was great, but the UltraAVX at CrossIron Mills made it a better experience.
Jackass was the best use of 3D I've seen. I heard someone describe seeing it in a D-Box seat. It would jerk forward every time Steve-O would retch, which would definitely make me feel sick.
