I have maxed out the spedo in a 2003 Lincoln LS at 220kph going south on highway 2 from edmonton to calgary. Prob I hit about 250kph in that car, and could have kept going but got scared. The car was a rental.
The fastest I have gone in my own car was 160kph. (2004 Pontiac Grand Am). On the new 37th street SW, past anderson. Didn't wanna break it so I slowed down haha!
What about you guys?

Hmmmm. I guess this thread could also be entitled "What's the stupidest thing you've ever done".
Driving that fast is as dumb as driving drunk. Well not quite...but darn close.

I was driving to LA once and going through Montana (prior to the highway speed limit) and hit 160 and change...I couldn't figure out why, just outside Vegas, my car had no oil in it...Hmmmmmmm.

I hit 160 many times going up Shag to home in Edgemont. Why I abuse my car and eat gas that badly, I don't know I really shouldn't.
Think fastest I've done is maybe 180-190 on the highway.

I was passing a big semi once and my overdrive kicked backed down to 3rd gear and passed that guy at 140 or so for about thirty seconds, scared shinguardless and pulled back into my lane.Pretty well drive at or around the speed limit.
Haven't seen a neccessity to do anything else.
Could tell you about driving dragsters and really fast 1/4 milers if you want though.

I don't have as much of a problem with the highway (within reason) but there is a definate problem doing that speed in the more residential areas.
The reasoning behind that if often times you just kill yourself on the highway, but in a community you usually take someone with you, or increase the possibility of doing so dramatically.

I drove my GT Mustang about 190 through Montana once. Lots of power left too...
The problem is that at those speeds, it doesn't take much for a grandma or family of four to wander into your lane and cause an incident. Going that fast, your reaction times are noticeably reduced, and lets face it, we don't have the split second reaction time capability of Michael Schumaker. This then turns into Operation Ketchup.
Some of the harsher fatal crashes happen on the AutoBahn...

I think I got up to about 220-230 kph on the Coquilla Hwy about 6 years ago. That was when I was young. Now, I just get scared.

It was pretty funny, the car struggled the last 10 km/h to get over the 200 mark. I was never a fan of the car, it was my girlfriend's. And the poor car never was the same after the bozos at the dealership changed the oil and forgot to put any back in.
That's the last time I went that fast in a car. I'm always afraid of the ticket I'll get, because I'm the unlocky sap who would get pulled over for that sort of thing.

You could *almost* argue that it is dumber, because you are of a clear mind to make a better decision about driving.

I've gone 240 Miles Per Hour in a Viper... oh wait, that was in Gran Tourismo.
Uh, I've gone 160km/h before. I used to go no less than 120km/h on the highways, but I've noticed that as I get older, I go slower.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm turning into an old man!

When I was 19 I worked for a Nissan dealership and had to deliver a 300ZX Twin Turbo to Sarnia. I went really really fast down the 402 but was too chicken to take my eyes off the road to look at the speedometer.

Only abour 140km/h... my first car (Dodge Lancer) just didn't have enough spunk to get any higher than that. And after that POS car, I now have the power to, but my vehicles are moreso geared for towing.
