Default Panthers acquire Carl Gunnarsson

The rebuild continues in South Florida, and another veteran player is moving on out.

To Columbus

Anton Volchenkov

To Florida

Carl Gunnarsson
Ivan Telegin

Gunnarsson has been playing top 4 minutes for the leafs since the Kaberle trade and has been playing fairly well for the leafs this season and I think he has fairly high upside. He should be a cheap 5/6th d-man next year for the Panthers.

He joins a solid group of under 24 year old D-men, Ryan McDonagh, Andrew MacDonald, Mark Katic, and Yann Sauve. This trade will also save the Panthers quite a large sum of money that it would've taken to re-sign Anton as well that can be moved to other areas of need.

Telegin slots into a spot on the ECHL team. I've been trying to constantly improve my worst players and Telegin is an improvement over another player on my roster who will be moved out.

Pretty surprised that was the best return for a 69OVR D-man with an 89DF rating but if your happy thats all that matters.

Damn Columbus looks scary now, nice work Dave.

Only one person sent me an email asking for any of my players.

If I get players that I like and think will be good, then I'll make the trade.

I'm looking to next year and beyond, and Gunnar should be a good 5/6 D-man along with MacDonald next season, and likely 3/4 d-men 2 seasons from now or better.

Volchenkov will cost 8+ to re-sign, and I would've likely spent that to keep him. Now that cash can be transferred to other areas of need.
