Default Humidifiers

Does anyone here have a stand alone humidifier? My condo is very dry, and obviously this weather isn't helping. I also have mild asthma and allergies, would this do anything to help? This unit is on sale at Canadian Tire, thoughts?

Hopefully that link works, if not, it's a Honeywell 11-gal. Console Humidifier.

I'm pretty sure most are all the same.
Things that I would look for:
Capacity of water
Running time
Ability to have different output speeds

Personally, I prefer the hot ones, because typically they don't require the filters then. Changing filters is a hassle and can get costly after a while.

Ultrasonic is the way to go in my opinion. No filters to replace, and the descaling requirements are much less than a hot humidifier. The ultrasonics should also be a lot more power efficient than a hot humidifier.

I bought a couple units for the rooms I wanted humidification in (eg. bedroom and living room), rather than a single large one.

Eventually I'd like to upgrade the humidifier on my furnace and have a proper sensor and automatic control, but for now the room size ultrasonics work great, and only need to be filled every 2 days or so.

I would get one without a filter. Basically the filter is like a big towel that sucks up the water, and the fan blows through it. It uses less energy, but it can cause issues with allergies.

I also hate having to buy new filters after the existing one gets clogged with calcium. Next winter I plan on buying this one; or something like it: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en

So does that one I linked to require a filter? I can't find info on that.

Edit - And about those misting ones, does it cause problems at all with moisture? Such as, does it ruin pictures on the wall, stuff like that?

Go to Sears and buy a Kenmore, they're very reliable machines and you're lifetime guaranteed to have parts and service available.
