What's he going to say? "Gee, sorry guys. I promise.. No more ripping of Canadians. Now if you'll excuse me I must catch a plane to the Carribean where I booked an island all to myself and my closest supporters for the next 10 days..."

I imagine he'll say 'look at all the great stuff we promised in the budget, and Kyoto, health care, gay marriage, etc. Canada needs us for all of that.'
Followed by or preceded by a quick statement about the unfinished work of the Gomery inquiry and how the bad guys will be punished.
My head tells me it could go either way in terms of whether the Canadian public buys it. My gut is much more cynical, and tells me they'll buy it hook line and sinker.

Yep. He's going to act like a politician and try to talk his way out of it. It's quite shocking.

Is he going to tell us that he has the "moral" authority to govern again?
The man who balanced the budget by dumping the federal deficit onto the provinces?
The man who was finance minister at the same time of the HRDC boondoggle, Shawinigate, the Gun Registry and AdScam, yet he was unaware?
The man who, as Prime Minister, has shown even less concern for this country and it's citizens than Chretien did?
I simply can't wait to have my intelligence insulted tomorrow.

OT: You do know the scope of the Finance Minister's job, right? He drafts the budget and assigns funding to various departments; he has no control over how the ministers and heads of those departments use their funding.
Nor is it the Finance Minister's responsibility to monitor each department's spending and make sure our tax dollars are being used appropriately. That's the role of the Auditor General.

Considering 'national' addresses by the PM isn't common in this country, (I think the FLQ crisis was the last time), it's clear the Liberal Government is feeling the heat. Of course, it's all politics and Canadians will buy blindfolded whatever he's selling.

I am aware, but when a department asks for $2 million for a gun registry, and then keeps asking for more, and more and more and more until the cost balloons up to $1 billion, and no questions are asked, one has to wonder what the Finance Minister and his staff are doing.
Perhaps rather than stating Martin was unaware, stating that he didnt care would be better.

Which federal department did the Gun Registry fall under? Department of Justice? The RCMP? Isn't it possible that a civil servant in whichever department administers the Gun Registry kept reallocating money from within the departmental budget rather than requesting additional funding?
I'm not saying that's the case...I really don't know. Wasn't it just as much a surprise to the Liberals as it was to everyone else when the auditor revealed just how overbudget the gun registry had become?

Department of Justice, I believe. And find me any department that can absorb a 50,000% cost overrun by simply shifting it's own budget around.
While we do not know for sure how much Martin or his staff knew about the problems within the gun registry - as well as HRDC - I believe it is a very long stretch to assume they were completely ignorant of these financial misappropriations.
That kind of money simply doesnt go missing without someone catching on.
The point is that Martin either didnt know, or didnt care, and neither excuse makes him look good, especially when he proclaims a moral right to govern.

The only other problem when Martin speaks is that after he has spoken whatever he speaks everybody turns to the person sitting next to them and asks the same question: "What the heck did he just finish saying?!!!"
Martin has perfected the political gift of stringing together 1,000s of words while saying nothing that commits him to anything that he can't back out of when the going gets tough.
I'm sure he'll have a great excuse to present us tomorrow about why he's been playing hooky from the House of Commons all week long and we'll all have apologize to him and beg him to call an election so we can hand him a massive majority. O_o

It's like a goddamn broken record in here...
"The Liberals just keep playing politics, that's why they win wah wah wah".
What the hell do some of you people expect? Technicalities, backstabbing, bull*******, outsmarting, outfoxing, obfuscating... that's what they all do.
Just because the conservatives suck at everything so bad that this blatant corruption scandal still doesn't give them a slam dunk isn't the fault of the Liberal party.
In other news, I'm really sick of the Brandon Wheat Kings. All they did was score more goals and that's why they win.
