Congrats to Mike Comrie, but if he gets a 40% raise after amassing 1 assist and going -5 in 5 playoff games, what does someone that isn't the weak link get?

Yah, I agree but unfortanetly they get paid for the regular season as well. Mr Comrie had 32 goals and 82 points.
Not to mention a dam Hab player hurt Comrie in Game 3 on the playoffs. That Ranger GM should be fired for dressing an injured player................

I just think the deal sets the bar pretty high. With 60 million dollars less in the total salary dollars available, some players will need to take a cut. If Comrie is worth a 40% raise, where does that put Samsonov? More regular season points and a higher rating than Comrie and also an RFA, that puts him into the 5-6M range IMO. My intention is not to pick on you, just offering my comments. With a couple higher priced players on my roster, I understand the delemma when it comes to payroll.

Well, Comrie did get his assist pre-injury, but he was also -2. While playing injured he was +1, although he was unable to find the scoresheet. But if you want to encourage his crybaby routine, go right ahead LOL

Yah, well just wait till you have to negiotate that contract for Brad Richards. In CPHL land he has the same amount of points as Mike "Mr No show" Comrie.
I am betting he will get a raise > 40%....

Yup, which is eactly why I get concerned when I see Comrie get the huge raise. Like I said - it sets the bar pretty high.

Perhaps, but guys like Richards and Comrie are definitely top 6 forwards. All teams can operate with a 61 million dollar payroll and have 20 players. So the average CPHL salary is allowed to be 3.0 million per player. Since the likes of Richards and Comrie are top 6 and above average players right now than it stands to reason that they can demand better than average money. Still when it comes to restricted rights players I still believe in benchmarking those players against similar players on your own team. IMO you have the power to sit a Richards or Comrie on the sidelines for 5 seasons if they demand too much money.
Another angle to consider is that agents are wise to get their guys signed fast before GM's burn up all their cap space. There is going to be 60 million less dollars in the league next year (although sponsorships will add extra money, so it's likely about even). So getting players signed earlier guarantees that the agent won't end up in a situation where he's got to get a star player signed and teams only have like 750k in cap space left.

I agree in benchmarking, but against the league, not limiting the comparison to a single team. While the free agent is restricted, he should be compared to similar players (age, production, rating etc.) across the league. Restricting comparison to within the team would penalize a player playing on a team with a low payroll.

I'd just like to say that this is brilliant news and I'd like to welcome Sunil into the fold.
As for all this "it sets the bar high", well I don't really know what that means. We all like to go to the bar, right? Everyone loves to get high, don't they? It sounds like a win-win situation.

And this is why I love dealing with you Roos :P
Thank goodness, because about 90% of my players are represented by Jack Torrents.
