Accident at Olympic Station - 7th Ave CTrain Service Suspended
Looks like a possible pedestrian fatality at Olympic Station downtown has CTrain service suspended. I'm only hearing fatality from twitter, so hopefully it's wrong. Just a heads up for those riding home.

Emergency crews are on the scene after a man was hit by a CTrain.
He was pinned under the train and fire crews used lifts to raise the train and pull him out.
He's been rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
7th Avenue is closed between Macleod Trail and Centre Street.
Macleod Trail is shut down southbound, and traffic is being re-routed along 6th Avenue West.
Shuttle busses are being provided for transit users along 7th Avenue.

Gates where? Like a rail along the entire edge of the platform? I guess if the trains stop in exactly the right spot it might work.

Automated gates that open in opposite directions parallel to the fence on which they are mounted could be made wide enough to allow for variation in the precise stop point.

All but impossible to implement due to station design and nature of operations.

Hey now, let's just babyproof the entire line because of a couple accidents and dumb people.
Hopefully the injured is doing alright.

There's a big yellow line at each station. That's helped me not get hit for 23 years now.

Just finished walking by that. After a long day at work, I love getting off at Vic Park instead of downtown and walking home. When will people learn that trains > humans, every time.
Also, the train I saw stopped wasn't at the Olympic Plaza station, it was in the next block. Probably someone trying to jaywalk and getting pasted.

Or people could not walk in front of the train? That seems like a much simpler solution...

Just before 3:30p.m. Friday the Fire Department were called to Centre Street and 7th Avenue. When they arrived they found a man pinned under the middle car of the train. Firefighteres used pneumatic life bags to raise the train and pull the man out.

Notice, among other differences, the presence of a roof, no other vehicles sharing the right-of-way, no cross streets, operator-controlled vehicle doors, and uniform train lengths.
