Mmmm...Wine
I have a built in wine-rack at the end of an island in my kitchen that holds about 20 bottles or so that has been dying to be filled for ages.
The kicker...I like wine but am no expert and wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between a good $20 bottle and a $60 bottle.
Then I saw this deal:

Anyone have Redwood Creek Wine? Price is hard to beat but is there a reason why it is so cheap?
Anyone have any other suggestions for cheap, but quality wine I may want to look at?

We just bought a Merlot bottle and opened it last night.
Very dry and I like that.
For the price it's surprisingly tasty. A cheap man's version of Wolfbass yellow label. Wolfbass is better but double the cost.

Wifey and I are big fans of the Bin 444 by Wyndham Estate. Its a shiraz, is Australian, and routinely goes on sale for $12.
Its the house wine at Casa-del-suave.

You should store wine in a cool dark place.
The 2010 Wine Magazine annuals should be in the stores now, with plenty of recommendations for quality wines on a budget.
Go for Wine tastings in Kensington. Go to the Okanagan once per year to re-stock the cellar.
Home wine kits are fun and decent quality.

Ever tried Zyn in Inglewood? That place is sweet! Zyn.ca i think. Deals on bulk, specials, warehouse selection and sometimes buy 1 get a 2nd for a dollar deals. Pretty good staff too i was never disappointed in recommendations. They'll point out good cheap wines and good expensive wines without blinking an eye.

This.
I know it'll look nice to have that rack all filled up, but it's probably the worst place you could store wine. Wine likes consistency, (cool-ish and dark as mentioned), not the fluctuating temperatures of a main floor house with sun rays beating down on it.

For Aussie wines, the rule of thumb is pretty simple. Shiraz from Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale.

If you just wanna stock up on cheap stuff that tastes decent there is an Argentine wine called Fuzion that everyone was going crazy over a year or two ago for 8 bucks a bottle, I think it's a Malbec blend and it's decent.

If you want good Canadian wines in the $20-25 range, I strongly second the Quail's Gate suggestion, and I would also highly recommend Summerhill (the one with the pyramid on the label, and there is a pyramid at the winery)...
Please ignore tyler's suggestion of Casillero el Diablo - that swill still gives me nightmares. When I worked in Moscow in 95-96, that was pretty much the only foreign wine in stores, and if I never have another drop of it... I'll be a happy man.

Not sure if they're carried in Canada, but D'Arenberg's Footbolt shiraz (or even the Stump Jump shiraz blends) are usually great value if you like a full-bodied Aussie shiraz. They come from McLaren Vale, which is my favourite for a shiraz.
