Default Hot Sauce Child Abuse Mother charged

We had a thread talking about this woman a few months ago. She had posted a video showing her using hot sauce and freezing showers to punish her child.

She's been charged with Misdemeanor child abuse.

Her lawyer (paraphrased): "Well if a child has Mexican food that's too hot, is that child abuse?"

Using that logic, tazing a kid isn't child abuse because he willingly rubs his socks against the carpet and shocks himself.

I think people these days would be horrified to know how my generation was disciplined (I'm 45) I didn't swear, but soaping children's mouths out was very common if they swore.

Catholic schools still gave the strap as punishment, (on the hand). teachers walked around the class with a ruler in their hand for intimidation.

At home it was normal to get backhanded ASAP, instantly if you were in arms reach. LoL

The "belt" or strap was for boys, well all of this was for boys, girls weren't bad enough to get physical punishment.

The worst was when Dad would send me to my room for awhile to choose between X amount of straps on my bare ass or X days grounded in the house.

Decisions, decisions..,I always took the strap. I turned out OK

This was normal (for rowdy boys) We were almost all rowdy back then, now kids are more civilized (until it's too late)

IMO Our generation learned from small mistakes, these days 12 yr olds are doing B&Es and stealing cars before they learn.

Why do people go on and on about the punishment they received as a kid? It's creepy.

Pinner, our generation (47 here) was far more criminal than the 12 year olds and their mythical B&E's you're inventing. The US (and Canadian) murder rate peaked in the early 80s, just as you and your effed up generation (myself included) was reaching adulthood.

The crime rate has gone nowhere but down since the baby busters grew out of crime. Things are better now- far better- than it was when we were juveniles.

When I was a kid, the punishment for swearing was a tablespoon of tobasco sauce., and I was spanked probably half a dozen times. I turned out fine, it's about the atmosphere in which discipline is conducted.

Not to mention whether it is caught on camera and viewed millions of times.

Whats the statue of limitations on these types of things, my mother put tobasco on my tounge as a kid for swearing and I wanna get on this train. I don't agree with this at all but kid sthese days do lack discipline.

It was different when I was young as well. Whenever I wrote with my left hand my teacher would chop it off and force me to sew it back on with my right. I turned out alright though.

What train do you want to get on? You want to have your mom arrested?

Short on time but I found this:

http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/pi/yj-j...iscretion.html
Quote:
The great majority of offences against the administration of justice by young offenders are failure to appear for court and breach of probation (usually prosecuted as the offence under the YOA of "failure to comply with a disposition"), but this category also includes violations of bail conditions (both JIR and OIC undertakings), escaping from a facility ("escape custody"), or leaving a facility without permission ("unlawfully at large", or, colloquially, "going AWOL"), and rare instances of other offences

Wasn't there also a doctrine of "boys will be boys" when you were a kid. How many kids were charged with assault for beating?

I know it's not the same thing, but for F'sakes you have to be charged with something to "not appear" Right ?

I'm busy, somebody find some good stats. I believe the crime rate has gone up, frege64 says it peaked 30 years ago. /
