2013 Calgary Best Neigbourhoods

Arbour Lake rises form second in 2012 to first in 2013. I always find the results dubious. I've lived in Arbour Lake for a decade and I am acutally suprised it ranks this high. My personal favorite is Lakeview by the Glenmore reservoir. Also, Scenice Acres is just on the other side of Crowchild and it rankes much lower than Arbour Lake, go figures.

Well it (Scenic Acres) doesn't really have anything, a small community center, and no lake.

As for Arbour Lake, I don't know if it's the best or not, but it has a lot going for it. First of all, a lake community should be in the top spot, so that makes sense. Any lake community is objectively better than any non-lake community. Arbour Lake also seems to have a nice range of home prices, and I like that basically anybody from any budget could get in there. It's also a nice age now with established trees, schools, etc. LRT runs right through it. Crowfoot right there (restaurants, grocery stores, theater, shopping, etc.).

Acadia, though, you have to be kidding. Varsity as well. Those communities don't offer anything special.

These articles are always so ridiculous given that the rankings change so much from year to year. It's not like there's massive changes going on in neighborhoods every year that you should see such volatility in the rankings. It's not like Arbor Lake changed that much in 2013.

Kelvin Grove is 13? I live there and there is nothing special here with the exception of the reservoir and pathways being close and Chinook Center nearby.

Arbour Lake with a walkability of 10 ... hmm. I guess if you want to walk through meandering roads and cul de sacs and then down to Crowfoot Crossing that's accurate.

Another Arbitrary list. Arbour Lake is #1 and a community such as Sundance with its close shopping, all 3 levels of schools, right next door to fish creek park and a lake can't break the top 50 (Not that Sundance should be close to #1 either).

No, it's totally objective, which is why I put the word in there. You pay basically nothing for a lake (we pay ~$250 annually at Lake Bonavista) and it gives you an insane amount of leisure opportunities that people in a non-lake community don't have. Having those opportunities is objectively better than not having those opportunities.

Not only that, but calling that thing a lake is hilarious. There are like 3 dozen homes on the lake, and the rest of the neighbourhood is your standard "lets design this so it looks neat from the sky" neighbourhood. There are some parks though, so it's definitely got that.

Of course you assume everyone values the exact same things which of course is 100% incorrect, so nice try there. Funny thing though, a lot of people value communties with, say, an offleash dog park, whereas you value a community where dogs are banned. The fact you like a lake doesn't mean everyone does.

I have no desire to live in a lake community actually. Its entirely subjective, which is part of the reason that these lists are silly. You love it, and that's great. Some of my family lives in Bonavista and they love it....its a nice community, so I can see why. I think sometimes they even go to the lake more than once or twice a year, so at say $125 a pop, its probably fantastic.

They aren't just looking at poshness of the neighborhoods, they are looking at overall value. That is what you are missing. Another component missing from the list as well, that knocked Lake Bonavista down a notch was apparently people run Rottweiler and Pit bull mills there.... also there was issues with the residents attacking household pets with bear spray. Once these issues get sorted, I am sure my old stomping ground will easily get to the top of the list.

My parents just left lake Bonavista last week after 42 years, and moved into a home in Cranston on the ridge of Fish Creek park. They haven't used the lake in 10 years, and have walked their dogs in Fish Creek park every day since they have been in Cranston. Objectively, they get more use out of their new location than their old one. WHY ISN'T CRANSTON NUMBER ONE ON TEH LIST?1!!!!!!!!!111!!111

Things to enjoy in Acadia: The sounds of a police helicopter overhead every night. Drunks walking on the street trying to take a swing at your car. Ghetto Walmart. Sidewalks covered in glass.
