Default Is it hard to replace a control board on a furnace?

So my control board is gone and I found one for $250.

Anyone I called wants about $600-$700 for the part and their work.

Anyone know if it's hard to replace it on your own or do you need a professional to come do it?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Turn off the gas and the power first - what's the worst that could happen?

Bump.

Ok so after doing this myself I have no clue why no one would sell me this part unless I had my gas ticket.

Took me about 45 minutes and the part cost me about $260. Very simple job. All you had to do is mark the wires and plug them in the identical spot on the new board. The part only costs about $150, but I found a guy who would sell me the part for a little more without having my gas ticket.

The people I did call wanted about $700 to do the work. If I did this in 45 minutes they could probably do it in 15-30 minutes. $550 dollars for 30 minutes of work. Complete rip off.

Where did you end up getting the board from?

I'll PM you if you really want to know, but this guy wasn't supposed to sell me it so I'm not going to advertise his name or the business he works at.

And neither do I unless the only reason is so that the people with gas tickets can overcharge.

It's not a dangerous job at all. Just turn off the power and you're good to go.
