Now we just wait for the people that normally use regular gas and get premium for the first time to tell us how much faster their cars felt and how much it improved their fuel economy despite that being physically impossible.

I hear if you use premium you don't even need winter tires.

Regular gas raped my mother, and sodomized my dad.

That's why I only use premium gas from now on.

What is the point of premium?

It's for higher compression engines, (2 strokes and high performance engines) it can be compressed more without detonation.

Depends on your compression and what your ECU is set up for.

Premium has a higher O2 concentration and therefore an increased resistance to pre-detonation (ignition). This is helpful for high compression / advanced timing engines that require it, but actually takes away power from a car that doesn't, as the combustion process is less likely to completely burn all the fuel.

Just fill up at husky/mohawk, their regular is rated at 90 octane which is almost the same as premium 91 at other stations.

All I know about premium is that the buttons are configured backwards (by my definition) at the Chevron in Revelstoke, BC, so if you're in idiot like me you'll fill up with premium at about $1.30. F'n premium.

With a free 10% reduction in fuel economy due to the ethonol content in their gas. Ethonal has less energy per unit, thus it reduces fuel economy.

I use their 92 mid-grade in my Audi occasionally and notice a 5-8% reducion in fuel economy, which is mostly offset by the reduction in price.

Which is a nice double hit to your fuel economy, too high of an octane for your engine designed for 87, and shyte ehtanol blended gas.

Yeah, but then you get that crappy ethanol blend.

I always thought that there are different ways to measure the octane in gas. In Europe isnt premium in the 100s. This led me to think that Husky's premium might be measured different than a shell premium. Stupid thought I know but swear I read this somewhere.

Europe uses RON, we use RON-MON/2, I believe - we are 3-4 points below them, but the ocotane level is the same:

Looks like I was right:

The Road Octane Number lies between the MON and RON

so RON+MON / 2 = North American Octane, which is called Road Octane Number, but not RON as an abbrev.
