IMHO YY/MM/DD is the way to go, because it makes sorting alphanumberically the same as sorting chronologically.

But it's nonsensical because the year comes first and that is the least vital and least specific piece of information.
MM/DD/YY is most applicable in most situations because that is how dates are spoken in the English language. When you are asked what a date is, you reply: "January 11th, 2011", not "It is the year 2011, in the month of January, on the 11th day".
