Question Help! Word 2007 Email Merge Image Compression

I'm trying to do an Email Merge advertisment in Word 2007, and it keeps compressing my images to nasty jpgs with all kinds of artifacting.

I can't for the life of me get it to stop compressing! I've tried
  • compressing the image in Corel Paint Shop before moving inserting it
  • compressing and splitting the image into three files before inserting in word
  • Various file types from png to jpg to bmp (gif doesn't have enough colors and looks gross
  • compressing right in word in the format tab
The image I am using is colorful... it is supposed to catch my customer's eye.

Does anyone know what I can do? Is there a way to disable the compression?? Can I find a perfect size that will not compress?

It's just so much uglier with the artifacts.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm now that I see this on a lower contrast monitor it's not as drastic a difference. This should be OK. I'd still like to know... if anyone has any tips.

I can see the difference, but only because you pointed out the star. I don't think that anyone getting an email message would notice or care one way or another.
