Both sides know they're not going to get what they ask for, so the players ask for more than they really think they're worth, and the teams ask for less than they really want to pay. Then the arbitrator awards the player somewhere in the middle and everyone goes home unsatisfied by the whole process.

I'm sad that there was some resentment after the Gaudreau deal - but thank goodness he's on the contract that he's on

He should have asked for max knowing it's (A + B) / 2.

Then Ottawa walks and he becomes a UFA. Calgary buys out Brouwer, trades Frolik and Stone signs here for 5.1.

This one and the Ceci one both seem way too high on the player ask to me. Would be surprised if the arbitrators aren't closer to the teams even given the halfway trend we've been seeing.

The guy is near Selke level quality winger who put up over a point-per-game. He played 58 games and still lead his team in points.

Draisaitl (8.5M)
Kuznetzov (8M)
Eichel (10M)
Johansen (8M)

Those are the ~point-per-game players that his agent will be using the arbitration case. Much closer to 9M than 5M that the Senators are asking for.

Even when the Senators bring up Gaudreau, Mackinnon, Pastrnak, those players are 6.5M, not 5M.

I would take any of the 7 players you listed over Stone

I think Johansen is a little overrated but the other guys without a doubt are more coveted players.

I'd take Stone over Johansen and Draisaitl (McDavid effect).

Otherwise yeah.

Realistically he's worth 6.5-7.5

Tough one because Johansen is a center. Both players are the same age despite Johansen playing a over 500 games already.

Draistaitl definately has his totals a little inflated but he's only 22 years old. No way I take a 26 year old winger over a 22 year old center that's put up back to back 70+ point seasons. I think people have to realize Stone is further along in his career than most players he's being compared to here.

Yeah i agree and I don't think offence is everything but Stone outproduced him in way less games.

Lol, really going to debate the difference between a 54 point center and a winger who was on pace for 88 while providing amazing defense?

What would it take to get him out of Ottawa? That's the big question.

This is pretty much a trade me right effing now ask. Why not, I think I'd want a hefty premium if I had to play for Melnyk too.

Wow that is a crazy contract ask for Stone. I guess his agent has decided to test the theory of the arbitrators always meeting in the middle.

Not a bad gamble though. There is no chance Ottawa will walk away from the contract and lose one of their best assets for nothing.

Stone is easily worth $7+, $9mil is not a crazy ask from the player side. It just looks crazier because of the star value of the player, but it's the same idea as every other arb case.
