#NJDevils sign free agent defenseman David Schlemko to a one-year, one-way contract.
The Schlemcat found a new home. Good place too.
Yep, I knew he was working on a contract with one or more teams. Some were wondering aloud why we didn't just sign Schlemko to a PTO contract instead of Wilson, or making it seem like he wasn't getting an NHL contract so he'd basically be sitting by the phone if the Flames felt they wanted to bring him back.
I didn't think any of that was ever the case, he was always just weighing his options and trying to maximize his value as he's never had a good NHL contract.
Great signing for NJ, the 3rd best possession Dman the flames had last season behind Brodie and Gio. He can play in all situations, really wish Hartley would have given him more of a look later season given his performance vs Engelland's.
Was that Cheese or Cheerio, I get the food names messed up sometimes.

You must be very happy with the contract your client signed to. Right agent Cheerio?
That Schlemko shootout moment should go down in flames lore as one of the most absurdly surreal moments in a season filled with them.
Everything from the waiver pickup, to the conversation on the bench to another win after coming from behind to the ridiculous move itself. Just a great moment. Only thing that could have topped it off, is if it was at home.

So much for four years, $12M or whatever you thought he should get.
