Default Car wrongly towed. Options?

I woke up this morning to a missing vehicle. The reason they have was "expired plates" but I'm literally holding a copy of my registration in my hands, and it's valid until 2025.

I called them and they told me I have to pay the full charges and then I can fill out a piece of paper to complain about it.

Anyone know what I can do to get this sorted out properly? I'm fine paying to get my car back, but I obviously want the money back. What are my options?

Edit: it was towed from in front of my house

But, FanIn80 it is 2026. How long were you asleep man?

BTW, the Flames won the cup. Very unexpected.

And if they did, the councilpersons and beuro's should be rounded up and shot.

Yeah, not saying it doesn't happen, but that would be pretty dumb. If it was the reason, that was the reason they should have gave him not an expired plates excuse.

I don't know man, I'd be pretty pissed off too. Pay and hope you get your money back I guess? I wouldn't feel great about that either. Do you know any Karens who can speak to the manager?

There are no bylaws regarding parking for more than 48 hours.

Can’t you get towed after 72? My old neighbour would call in cars that hadn’t moved

Yeah you gotta have a real bitchy neighbor for that to happen. I always understood that if the vehicle was registered to a house right there they'd cut it a ton of slack on that rule

I got incorrectly towed from my own assigned spot at my office.
I fought it and got nowhere. Just was a waste of time and energy.
Very frustrating though.

I had a parking control guy tell me they usually have an unofficial rule where if it's in front of your house, they won't tow you.

I had to pay $300 to get it back. Showed them copy of my valid registration (renewed for another year in June when I bought the vehicle), as well as valid ins and DL.

They handed me a ticket for "parking on the street with expired plates" and a form to fill out to dispute it. Also another form to dispute the towing and storage fees.

What a piss off. Drove my roommate to the airport on Sunday, parked in front of my house when I got home. Wake up today and notice it's gone. I was sitting on hold waiting to talk to the police when I googled how to check if ibe been towed... punched in my license plate and that's how I found out.

Guy at the impound was like, "yeah I can see it's registered, so I don't know what happened, but you have to pay anyway."

What an unbelievable scam.

Did you get into an argument with any neighbours or on the road that day?
I wonder if someone called it in as expired to mess with you and the towing company couldn't be bothered to even confirm.

How is these even legal? It's like stealing a car and holding it ransom.

Tow truck drivers are the pirates of our roads. I’ve yet to meet an honest one, although I’m sure they exist. They are easily the biggest #######s on the 400 series roads in Ontario.

Now days, without the sticker in Alberta, people can't tell if it is expired. Someone from CPA or the police would have to verify it wouldn't they?
