Knights Vegas trades Nate Schmidt to somewhere

Andy Strickland
@andystrickland
Hearing Nate Schmidt will be traded to the Florida Panthers to create the necessary space to sign Alex Pietrangelo. #Vegasborn #Flapanthers

David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
Follow up on this... Told that a Schmidt trade is still in place, but contrary to reports, he is not going to Florida. Stay tuned.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Nate Schmidt has not been traded to Florida. Which is not to suggest he won’t be traded. He’s in play. But the Panthers haven’t dealt for him.

With Schmidt, Gudas and Nutivaara ($11.16M) added to Florida's blueline, and with many reports for months that management was told they have to cut tons of salary, you gotta figure they're pretty close to moving a big ticket out. Specifically on defense.

Yandle?
Ekblad??

Awesome. I'm a big Schmidt fan. This is a great move and I don't expect anyone shipped out just yet, but talk to me in a few months near the trade deadline.

Maybe Yandle, but Florida definitely needed to improve their D. I'd say they've done that. And Hoffman and Dadonov are off the books now.

Wasn't their rumblings earlier that they may be willing to move on from Ekblad?

I haven't heard anything like that. He's very well liked in the franchise, and most nights he's their best defender by a pretty decent margin.

To me, Schmidt most easily replaces Yandles' skill set.

While I think Yandle has been pretty good here offensively, he doesn't play a very strong defensive game still. Schmidt at least does a bit of both.

Could have been posters here that were dreaming of adding him to the Flames. I do recall some talk about him recently.

That's one way to look at it, but they're going to get Pietrangelo anyway. Why let a good talent go to another team when he could help yours?

Jets traded for Stastny.

This isn’t just about helping Vegas though. If someone views that Schmidt helps them, why won’t you make that move!

Columbus has room too, and they traded away 2 decent defencemen. Overkill in Columbus I guess.

Schmidt has a modified no trade as well...so maybe the Panthers were on it?

Willing to predict that Vegas will not have to add any draft picks to get a deal done for Schmidt.
