Default Why are there no more Baskin Robbins in Calgary?

Title says it all, I just came back from Toronto where one of my old habits is always to have Baskin & Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream at least once and I really want some more but I just looked and it appears that every single location in Calgary is closed and gone.

Not enough differentiation between what they sell and what you can get in the grocery store. Why get a cone there when for a similar price you can get a pint of Haagen Dazs?

Check out Marble Slab in Market mall if in the NW. But they have them in most major malls. You will be amazed of how much better it is than Baskin Robbins.

I hate Marble Slab, I find their product is too sweet compared to others.

I hate Marble Slab. I hate Ice Cream that is folded and thrown around on the slab and mixed up. Reminds me of dough. It's not the style of ice cream that I like. I also am not a fan of Häagen-Dazs either.

I guess I don't have much choice. I'm not a fan at all of the more "gourmet" or "upscale" style ice cream parlours. I didn't even like Phil's as a kid. I like franchise chain ice cream that is simple.

Is Ben and Jerry's operating in Calgary? I always found that one to be the best of all the ice cream chains.

Phils was right across school for me throughout Elementary and Junior High. We would go there too much and my family too since Phil was Chinese and they liked the asian flavors - which I disliked and still don't see what the fuss is about. Phil's is served too cold IMHO and therefore your tastebuds don't detect the right flavours.

Since I was a kid, one of my most traumatic memories (lol) is when Baskin & Robbins in Market Mall closed (must have been 1988 or 1989) and I couldn't have Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. It was where Black's Camera shop is. It used to be right beside the movie theatre. Back then, the only other ones were in the south and my parents wouldn't drive there. So I started to have it whenever we went to Toronto to visit family.

Basically, I just want Baskin & Robbins Mint Chocolate chip and nothing else. I'm not really interested in other ice cream.

Try Levitt's Ice Cream Shop, then. Huge scoops of "classic" style ice cream.

There is also a big ice cream shop in Garrison Woods, I think it's called My Favourite Ice Cream Shop, but I have never been.

You could try Lick's between Central Memorial High School and Marda Lopp. Always been my favorite.

I also am puzzled as to the lack of BR in Calgary. Is there anywhere else I can get the greatness that is Gold Medal Ribbon?

Mint Chocolate Chip is one of my favourite ice cream flavours and LIC's blend is a nice consistent creaminess that adds great texture and sweetness apparent throughout their entire selection. For their Mint Chocolate Chip I love the fact that they use mini chocolate chips (not flakes) that have a great ice cream to chip ratio. They're the perfect size that they're found frequently, appearing in almost each bite.

LIC's has a decent assortment of ice cream to choose from that you can't go wrong with. On top of that they serve other items on their menu such as fries, onion rings etc. making it a great place to stop by during the summer for a relaxed meal.

That's something I'd never expect to come out of the mouth of someone from Calgary!

They gave up because Tim Hortons is selling ice cream now.

Take a trip to Cochrane and visit McKays Ice Cream. Excellent ice cream. They've been making their own since 1948. Everytime I go to Cochrane I always stop there for a cone.
