Only thing I'm somewhat tempted by is Singularity... but it'll probably come down before I play it. Love the little challenges for prizes though.

All I bought was Portal 2. All the other ones I would be interested in I already have.

It's a trap.
The prices on old games drop down so fast that you will always end up losing money if you buy games that you are not going to be playing right away.
Also, some of those "sales prices" are pretty typical scams. I paid ~5$ for Amnesia on Steam sometime this year. It's now "on sale" for 3,74, supposedly 75% off. Big whoopee. (That said, for that price you should totally check it out if you haven't before. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's different.)

There's no scam. Steam does not raise their prices just to put things on sale. Clearly, you just bought Amnesia when it was previously on sale.

I bought HL1 @$2.49 for a coworker who is new to PC gaming and has less capable hardware. I still have a spare HL2 copy from the Orange Box I'll give him when he upgrades. The $50 Valve pack would be perfect for someone new to gaming.

Thing is, the sales are frequent. Also, what's a sales price now is the standard price in the future.
The value of an old computer game is not much.
The only thing I see as worth buying is the stuff that's less than $3,99 / $4.99 because those sales don't come often.

You probably got the game off the Halloween sale.

That still doesn't make them scams. If everyone used the logic "I won't buy this on sale because that will be it's regular price in the future" nobody would buy anything.

Steam/Valve are pricing wizards. It's not a scam, more of a deliberate mind####. Their model is based on convenience and special sales, not so much on the list price. I don't mind, it works and it's fun, even if I have to buy new games elsewhere, and even if I end up buying games that I might never even install.
Right now I'm trying to talk myself out of buying STALKER. Tonight I watched the trailer for Lego Batman just to make sure that's not something I'd want. I mean WTF?

Arkham City for $24.99, probably not going to get lower than that for a while is it?
ETA: And I would play it right away most likely.

Check back on the last day of the sale. They may put it back on sale for the final day.
