Default Tech deals thread

Figured this could be a good place to inform others of these sales as sometimes memex can have smoking daily deals. Today they're selling the Logitech Harmony Ultimate One for $170 (normally $250)

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX52671

I have one of these and it is by far the best remote you can buy if you have a complex home theater setup

This has popped up a number of times.

If you sign up for their mailing list you will get the list of items for the upcoming week (but the prices are only revealed the day of the sale).

I still swear by my Logitech Harmony 720. Touch buttons = ehhhh. Although I thought the Harmony 1100 was cool.

I swear by this mailing list and have taken advantage of it many times.

I continue to purchase all my electronics from Mem and have never had any issues. Their IPR (instant product replacement) plan is fantastic.

They price match, as well.

Still $169.99 today when I just clicked. Guess it's not as "one-day" as they make you think.

IPR is In-store Product Replacement, as they reminded me the only time i have used it, but it certainly isnt instant

Not memex... But this is a damn good deal.

http://www.redflagdeals.com/deal/com...free-shipping/

You can't even get this deal price matched by Memex as far as I know. But it's from Newegg Canada which is quite reputable. Not sure on replacement/RMA how it would work though.

Thanks for the link! This is a great deal and I've been looking specifically at the 850 EVO for a while now.

Guess it makes sense to retitle the thread. That SSD deal is tempting, but I'm holding off until my next major PC system upgrade for next year so hopefully there's a better deal by then

Best mouse I've ever used. It's worth it at full price, for $60 it's a no brainer

There have been a couple of good deals lately at Memory Express. Today's deal is a 480GB SSD for $235

My dad is looking to purchase a new desktop computer and I found this on BestBuy:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/...8bb46279a8en02

What do you guys think? I don't think I could come close to building something like this at that price point.
I would like to add a SSD to it.

i7 and 16GB RAM is overkill unless you're doing heavy video editing/etc.

Stick with any i5 processor and 8GB RAM. Should bring the price down considerably.

If you planned on putting in an SSD you would want to wipe the 2TB and use the SSD for the Operating System. Might as well go for a custom build and squeeze out your moneys worth.

Keep in mind while a 6700(non-K) is a good chip worth ~$410, and the 370 is a $200 video card, literally everything else is bottom barrel parts, including but not limited to awful RAM, PSU, HDD, Motherboard and case.

So for 1k, you get $600 in good parts and $400 in crap. Definitely cheaper than a self build, but unless he's doing audio editing, video editing, or the like an i7 is overkill (even a locked chip), and if he's not gaming, the onboard video on an Intel chip is usually more than sufficient for any user, especially since the z170 chipsets handle VGA, DVI, HDMI, and Displayport outputs on board.

Assuming he's not a graphics designer and doesn't play anything beyond Facebook games, you could build something with overall better parts (though without hyper-threading) for hundreds less.
