Interesting. Don't the Habs have a ton of cap space?

For Alzner

There is only minimal cap savings of $666.667k this year.

The real savings is the 21/22 season where the cap savings are $2.667 mil

Do they really save a lot this year? I think Alzner has a bonus, and if he was in the minors, they would have gained a million in cap space in any case.

This might be more about the dollars saved I guess, as well as giving Alzner an opportunity with a different team.

Could see lots of buyouts this year. The rumored Wennberg buyout as well.

Could be lots of cheap show me deals to be had this year.

Yup, which is just more downward pressure on the FA market this year (other than top guys, where there is always demand).

There are going to be lots of cheap, one year deals to be had this year

Lots of contracts up next year, Gallagher, Danault, Tatar, Armia, Lehkonen, Kotkaniemi. Makes sense.

Chances of Holland signing him in Edmonton have to be at least 98%.

Alzner had a real quick decline.

Local Quebec media stated that his hands are so weak now that he can't open jars or grip anything really. ( Don't remember where I heard this as it was a few years back)

Sad story, was a sold defensive D man for quite some time.

Wasn’t Abdelkader supposed to be a core piece in Detroit at one point? His stock fell fast.

Looking like a bloodbath out there. I will get some delicious shadenfreude if and when James Neal's name pops up

Nah. It would please me more if he has to play the next 3 years in Edmonton.

We need to sign Abdelkader. I don't even care if he's good anymore. I only want him signed so we can play this epic song whenever he scores.

Ha! I'm reveling in the fact that the Oilers cant and wont!

I am enjoying seeing them drag James Neal's useless ass all around the ice like 'A Weekend at Bernies' except with a giant Boat-Anchor around his neck.

It is magnificent.

You still have to replace the player on your roster, so at best you're saving a few hundred k.

With such minimal savings this year, I would have thought they would wait until next year for the buy-out. Hard to imagine MAB will be around to feel the consequence of the extra cap hit in '23-24 though, I guess.

He was, sort of. The team just struggled. He’s 33 now and plays a nasty game.
