Default Fridge repair

Anyone know a guy who knows a guy who can fix a fridge?

I think the freezer of my fridge is busted, and the fridge occasionally make this whinny noise.

Sears want 100 bucks just to have someone to come out, and if it takes more then 10 mins to diagnose the problem, they are going to charge me more money...

I cleaned the back of the fridge and the fan is spinning, and it's (mostly) free of dust...

Is the fridge still working? or is it just the freezer thats kaputs?

Try searching here in the forums, IIRC, we discussed this a couple months back and there might be some good suggestions there.

I tried searching and I came up empty...

It appears the fridge part is still working.. it's just that the freezer isn't. It doesn't appear the fan is blocked with ice because it's not making any weird sound inside...

The new goggles also do nothing.

Anywhere is going to charge you to come look at it, no one works for free.

I've used Bowwest appliances before, and they'll apply a portion of the amount they charge to come look at it towards the repair if you go ahead with it.

I've used The Appliance Doctor before as well, they don't do that with the fee but they are good to deal with.

That's weird that the freezer isn't working but the fridge is, usually it's the other way around.. there's a vent that goes from the freezer to the fridge that sometimes gets iced up and prevents the cold air from the freezer getting to the fridge, and unplugging it for a day to defrost it totally fixes that (have had that in the past).

google you symtoms and your fridge model number and see if you can diagnose it that way. I've also used totem appliance before.

If you let the horse out maybe that will help!!

Sorry, just a drive-by, I have nothing useful to offer.

I'd be tempted to unplug it and let it sit with the doors open for 24-36 hours. If there is some sort of ice issue, that would be enough time for it to melt.

This is apparently what happens when the fridge stops working and the freezer still is.

I have goggle a lot and if it's the compressor that went, it would cost me around 500 bucks to fix. But the higher pitch noise doesn't come on all the time...so I can't tell me if it is the compressor that's the problem..

IS it a GE? We had a GE side by side where the freezer went and once it was something in the auto defrost, once the fan (sounds like you think this is ok) and once it was ice buildup (the 24 hour solution above)

I really like the Appliance Doctor as well. Good work and often same day. He also wont do work just to bill you and if it is cheaper to buy another he will tell you. Big fan of him.
