Best Camera for under $400...

Hey guys,

Not much of a camera guru by anymeans, and neither is my fiance... but her birthday is coming up and she has taken a liking to photography - so I figured that is what I would get her for her birthday. Any suggestions for someone who, I would say, has a pretty basic understanding of cameras - though she will be using and playing with it a pile?

Also - if there is a camera that is extremely better just outside of my price range, suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks guys - I know there is a lot of knowledge out there, some of you guys take amazing pictures of your own!

Sounds like you should be getting something with manual controls. If she has interest in photography, anything without them would be very limiting.

With that budget you should be able to get a 4/3 micro, stretch it a bit and you can get a beginner DSLR. Kind of depends on what form factor you want.

Compact -> 4/3 -> DSLR
Cheap/Small <-> Big/Expensive
