The Maple Leafs are thrilled to bring in some inexpensive experience in the form of Kris Draper and Ethan Moreau, and only spending 2.15 to get the two.

Wow, I am happy with both of my contracts, this worked out quite well for us. Almost put in a bid on Draper that would have won but I decided against it.

Hurricanes are extatic to be able to retain Chris Neil. We decided to allow Chris to hit the open market and not offer him a UFA grid contract, we we're able to re-sign him at a discount from last season. This may be a reflection of the leagues view of his worth... but from a Hurricanes perspective Chris is a big part of our team but we didn't want to overpay his roll with a grid

And that's the way smart GM's deal with the UFA grid...it's a risk but one that paid off really well for you.

Some of these contracts are really high...but then again they're considered "free", so I suppose it's not too much of a surprise they went for a high price. The Habs weren't willing to pay more than that we feel a player is worth so we're fine with how this went.

I debated letting Liles go to UFA instead of a grid deal but was concerned a GM would pay high for him and I would lose him; after seeing some of the offers, I'm glad I signed him to a grid deal.

So apparently I paid too much for White but it's okay as we desperately needed a top 6 forward. I am surprised the 2nd highest offer was only 3 M for a 66 ovr. I figured someone would have bid around 4.75-5 so I went with 6 to be safe. Need a couple more forwards to complete the bottom 2 lines now.

The thing is as long as these teams have the cap space the deals aren't horrible because of the ability to send the player to the farm in future years and release them for a very small buyout.

That's why we see huge contracts handed out - because the risk associated with them is relatively small.

But you can still be burned.

I'm not surprised to see what guys like White/Prospal netted but I am a little shocked at one of the some of the 3rd and 4th line types were able to garner.

Over the two batches of players I put in 12 bids. Prospal being the main player I wanted is the only player I got.

I came very close on a few others. Kotalik being a Flame I figured would of gotten a fair amount more so I changed my offer on him at the last minute to Ward. Stupid me!

Now I'm not sure who is going to play defense for the Wings as I only have 3 guys.

I'm glad that I got my team mainly set up going into this, because I've gotten no one.

Smithson was close to the money I wanted to pay (still wouldn't have gotten him), but I gave Dominic Moore the offer.

I was somewhat interested in Chris Neil, but I only offered him about half of what Doug did.

Over 6 million for Poti? 2.61 million for Chris Clark? 3 million for Auld? Don't get those at all.

The defensive forwards that I was interested in I thought were mainly paid fairly.

I also sort of have a problem with defensemen. Only have 11 between the big team and the AHL. Will have to address that via the scrapyard.

You just may be right, I think I misjudged a bit on that one. I thought Poti would have garnered a alot of interest since he was the only D left above 61OV at a 66OV to boot. I have always liked his ability to play shutdown and powerplay, not to mention a +24 and a +9 in just 6 games in the playoffs for the Caps. Anyway I would take him anyday at 6.5 rather than Rozsival at 7.5 which is what I had last year. So you are right about the ouch but it won't look too terrible if he makes it to a 67 or 68 before he goes downhill. He as got a pretty bad year 2 years ago still bringing his ratings down. I certainly don't think it is the worst signing of the UFA batch period but I also didn't plan on getting most of my offers accepted so I am wondering how much I did overpay. On the other hand, all and all I signed 7 UFA's for a total of over 8 MIL under the grid so I am fairly satisfied.

Personally I view Clark contract as pretty good investment, yes he is getting 2.6M however the key is he has a 2 way deal.

If he slows down and leaves NHL. That fellow will spend allot of time in the minors.

So its a win - win.

I was happy to gamble on Schnieder at a near minimum contract for the #7 d spot. He may retire and if he does I will lose very little cap space and if he stays he is a very affordable #7 option for me.
