Default Nothing is real

I thought this was really cool. I didn't realize the extent that Hollywood uses green screens. The locations they shoot on seem so real, that I always though most of the time they are actually shooting on location.

The city scapes and landscapes look near perfect. Quite amazing that all they have to do is build a small piece of set immediatley surrounding the actors, and then cover the rest in green and add it in digitally after.

I remember last year when they were filming parts of X-Men wolverine here at UBC campus. It was the scene where they jumped out of the plane and landed in Africa (earlier in the movie). They built a set that looked like an impoverished village. When I watched the scene in the theatre it amazed me how they were able to to make entire surrounding look like it was actually filmed in africa. If I hadn't seen the filming there's no way that I would have thought that scene was filmed in Canada.

I remember driving down Marine a few years ago and looking to my left into a 1970's New York street scene (it turned out to be from 'Watchmen') for a few seconds which was immedietly followed by a brand new Canadian Tire and a Tim Hortons.

Enjoy

Its not all making exciting explosions with Iron man flying out of it to crash into a $300,000 car.

So you want to be a VFX artist kid?

How do we know that they didn't add the green screen after?
