Australia+Womens Hockey+Sponsorship
Hey guys for the 2010/2011 hockey season i will be heading to Australia to play hockey for the womens national team ( pending contract )
To play hockey in Canada, USA, or even Europe everything is sponsored and taken care of ... but lets face it there isn't alot out there for womens hockey heck they are even thinking of taking womens hockey out of the Olympics due to lack of competition
Anyways i am looking for some good sources to help out with Sponsorship i need to raise between $7000 and $8000
I am not looking for any handouts or freebies i am even willing to put in the time and effort, i have one Casino in town doing sponsorship to cover some of the cost but in return i have sort all their recycling 2 times a week for 1 month
So like is said i no i am not going to be just handed money but any ideas from you guys on some places to go would be much appreciated
Cheers

Good luck, the IHA has been plagued by political bickering over the last couple years. Too many people worried about their personal interests over those of the game, not sure if it has spread to the womens game but the mens game has been full of strife. Hopefully that doesn't become an issue.
I'm curious as to how you're going to play for the national team as a Canadian, Australian heritage? Also, what is your sponsorship money going towards? Probably easier to get help if people don't think they're just financing your vacation.
Best of luck playing down there, it's a weird environment to play in but there are a lot of good people involved in the game down there. Enjoy playing in Newcastle (only rink with glass in the country), Central Coast and Sydney Ice Arena when you can, the rest of them (especially Canterbury) make the worst small town rink in Canada look like the Dome. You'll definitely come back with stories and plenty of friends, one of the best seasons I ever had.

LOL the Australian team can have upto 3 international players per year, if they intend on playing in anything National permission to play has to be asked 3 years in advance so while i am their i would be playing for a sub team in Brisbane.
As for sponsors i am happy to send them a copy of my contarct with all the bells and whistles including a cost breakdown to ensure the money is not for a vaction, and contracts between the sponsor and can be worked out if needed

4.11. IHA defines an import player as a non-Australian born player who does not hold Australian
citizenship or temporary residency status, but has a valid entry Visa to Australia, as approved by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA).

So you're playing for a club team not the national team? I was trying to figure out how a Canadian could play for the Australian national team.
I'm wondering why it would cost you so much to play with an Australian club team. I know there are travel costs, but I've never heard of contracts and such in Australian domestic leagues outside of the AIHL.

Well the flight there gets expensive around 2500$ there and back
Then they have there league fees that are huge!! Since there are only 5 teams in Australia to play against they fly every weekend all over and that cost alot of money, and this year they are trying to include New Zealand ... They do have local sponsors for some of the team but they can't pay for everything, dont think i wont be doing nothing while im there i am already on the job hunt lol

I'm wondering what you have to offer a sponsor? If you're asking a business to sponsor you, what is in it for them? I don't even see any good publicity coming out of it.
You say you're going to play on a club team that doesn't even have a large enough travel budget. This almost sounds like a rec league team, if the players are expected to pay their own costs.
It sounds like you're asking for someone to donate money so you can live your dream. No problem with that, but you should be more upfront about it.

Since you're going to Australia, you could sell your Mitsubishi Eclipse! That will raise more than $7000.

You need to be way more up front about what your situation is, otherwise this looks more like a scam than anything else. I'm assuming that's not your intent, but you start off with claims of playing on the Australian national team and link to a video that talks about the high costs associated for playing on the national team when that's not at all what you are actually doing.
By all means if someone wants to pay for you to fly to Australia and play in what is honestly a rec league spread out over 4 cities more power to you, but be up front about what you're actually doing. Most of the guys from overseas that I played with were hooked up with jobs by people involved with the teams, that was typically the way sponsorship worked so you might want to talk to the team and see what they can offer.

okay okay everyone has valid points and i am aware the hockey over there is not the best, but i am all for more countries developing and if it means they have to get other players from different countries to help that along whatever. Yeah the fees are huge and it does cost alot and its not like its a big name team but the fact is to get sponsors for womens hockey is really hard and to get a sponsor for a no name team is even harder, im putting time in and doing work to help raise money its not like im sitting back and collecting checks. I work a full time job, play hockey hockey full time and my bills just like everyone else, but the fact is i dont have 8000$ to spend on hockey fees, and flights ... thats the min i would require to go play, i plan on getting a job while im there and paying for the cost of living.
I wasnt trying to be rude asking if you guys might no of some places to try for sponsorship, yes maybe i should have gone into better detail about the program my mistake ... but the fact is its a chance of a lifetime ... even here in Canada we only have 5 WWHL teams so thats a max of maybe 15 goalies so if i need to branch out to another Country to expand my resume just to stand out i am going to do that.
