Question Rolco Rollshutters Inc won't honour warranty!

Looking for advice from fellow CP'ers.

We had Rolco install 7 window shutters on 6 windows at our residence in August 09. They were to have a one year warranty.

Two shutters have now become inoperable, we called Rolco out for service.

The tech came out without proprer ladders and parts to asses or fix the problem. The tech called his office to let them know what he 'viewed" ( The shutters are on second story windows, under a sofit facing south).

He was told by the office that it was not under warranty because of weather conditions, snow and ice. The worker told us if it was up to him,he would fix the windows under warranty as he did not see evidence of this. His office told him that we could not prove other wise.

This same problem occurred at another shutter in August just after install. 3 out of 7 shutter have now had this issue.

I have tried to call Hakim the owner of Rolco, a number of times however he has not been able to call be back because he is in " a meeting".

Any help would be appreciated.

File a complain with the BBB, if you have a warranty, then they are under obligations to fix it.

Agreed. It's easy to duck phone calls, but if you just show up and won't leave until you speak to him it's much, much harder for him to avoid dealing with you.

I don't know if he has all day to just wait for him. I think calling the BBB would be better

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

They are located in Okotoks so I may head down to the office.

Already filed with BBB they are not a member, however they have had complaints over warranty. I will keep you posted

This is true. The company I work for will never be a member of the BBB, why you ask?

Somebody can run a company like this Rolco guy, rip people off and shut the business down. The next day he can start up "Blind Company XYZ" and give the BBB his registration fee and just like that he is a member of the BBB!

We'd rather let our 28 years of serving customers and taking care of them speak for itself, rather than the sham of an organization that the BBB is.

Another shutter company is going to look and see if they can fix the shutters.

Obviously, make sure you keep all receipts/paperwork and then sue Rolco in Small Claims if the worst happens...

Many times. I had big time problems with a NW Toyota Dealership. They valued their perfect BBB reputation and I leveraged it against them.

If this company isn't a member and doesn't care about the complaints then there isn't much the BBB can do for you.

Many companies value their BBB records though. When I'm making a major purchase I like to check with the BBB first. I wouldn't exactly call it a sham, it comes in pretty handy for the consumer.

Sun Trend Awnings came out and fixed the problem, within and hour.

The service guy said that he has had to fix a lot of issues with ROLCO ROLLSHUTTERS INC.

The BBB has confirmed they are working on contacting ROLCO ROLLSHUTTERS INC.

HAKIM is still in "a meeting".

Good to see that if you google "ROLCO shutters" this thread comes up on the first page. Based on reading this, I sure wouldn't want to ever do business with them.

edit: You're also the first result if you google "ROLCO BBB". Right before the actual BBB link.

just for fun you should call rolco and ask them to come out and give you quotes on random homes throughout different parts of Calgary, Okotoks, high River etc.

Get Hakim running all over the place.

As of March 1, 2010 company has not responded to BBB.

Shutters have been fixed by Sun Trend and are all operational at this time.
