Default Smiley faces advertisement

So this smiley face add I keep getting when I reload this CP Forums is screaming at me... it basically yells out "OMG" or repeatedly yells "say something!! What??" every time it loads, I'm at work and I am forced to use IE and so I can't block adds with firefox. I use my sound to listen to podcasts or radio etc... so muting is not really an option and the advertisement is about 75 trillion decibels higher than anything else I listen to...

Seriously CP how much cash do we have to pool for this add to be pulled? I don't think anyone here is silly enough to install a crap application like that on their pc anyway... I highly doubt they are hitting their target audience of computer illiterate prepubescent girls here... it has to go please!!!

I am in favour of whatever it takes to get rid of that too. It has caused me embarrasment a few times. Is it too much to ask to not have sounds on ads?

That ad is what inspired me to install a certain add on to firefox. I pity you for having to use IE.

I'm pretty sure if you don't mouse-over on that add it doesn't yell at you.

God that ad is annoying. Its hard not to scroll over it when it is on the top of your screen when you want to go to another website or use the back or home buttons.

I'm running IE 8. I've never had issues like that on this site.

In fact, I don't get anything on the right side of the window, just the CP Radio Banner and the Calgary weather Info.

I haven't seen that smiley ad on CP yet, but whenever it's been on any other site, it instantly starts screaming at you when you get to the page.

I call my friends from work sometimes, and when they pick up, I put the receiver to my headphones and run my mouse over the ad....

"OH MY GOD!!!" NO WAY....."

"SAY SOMETHING!" "WHAAAAAT?"

"HELLO! ARE YOU THERE?"

On the response on the other end is...

I dont have to mouse over it for my version of IE. Again I'm at work for 95% of my CP browsing so don't have a choice of browsers or versions.

It just yells when the page finishing loading, sometimes it stops and sometimes it keeps going until I click a thread link or reload to get a different add.

Have to agree with MadMan, any way we can get that ad permanently blocked?

Bingo is the one in control of the ads, I don't know if he has that level of control. I'll make him aware of this thread

Would a portable version of Firefox from PortableApps get around your IE dilemma at work?

I am fortunate enough to have Firefox at home and at work, but I have Portable Firefox on my USB drive for times when I'm using a computer that doesn't have it installed. A little slower, obviously, but it might be useful for you.

Hey, if the smiley people are willing to foot the bill for advertising on CP, so I can enjoy my CP addiction for free, then I have no problem ensuring my mouse doesn't roll over the ad.

funny, I came on here to specifically comment on how much I hate this ad, only to see it is a common complaint.

Please get rid of them.

http://www.google.com/ads/preference...d-cookies.html

seems to have helped, especially by way of just manually selecting what ads I'm interested in. I haven't even gotten the smiley central ads since I set it up so many months ago.
