Xbox 360 boots up with no video or sound

hey guys,

Just had my xbox boot up and the red/green colors seemed to be stronger than everything on screen. I rechecked all the cables, did a few reboots, and now I am stuck to a black screen with only a couple horizontal lines shooting across the screen on initial reset time.

anyone else have this type of problem and have any suggestions?

I've been searching lots tonight, i have tried a "remove and replace hard drive" technique, as well as rebooting in every possible way.

problem could be overheating or something, although I think I had my heatsink upgraded way back when I had my xbox open

Uh oh. That is what happened to my roomates old system. I remember the whites all going kinda yellowish. It would start up every now and then ok, but eventually it just died. As it wasn't the red ring of death, MS wouldn't cover the replacement cost and they wanted $150 to repair. It's still in his closet from 3 years ago.

It's broken. Something similar happened to me, and since it isn't a RROD Microsoft won't fix it. What I did was kept playing on my system (which always froze with the horizontal colour lines), and it eventually gave me the rings.

For me, the GPU (graphics processor I think) broke.

what do you think if i call them and just say it is the red ring of death?

im in a bad position to send in because the warranty sticker got torn off
