Default Cell phone service

I'm sick of rogers - they've been nothing but a complete nightmare in the customer service department and my 3 year contract is FINALLY up. So does anyone have any recommendations for a new company to check out?

I'm not looking for anything too fancy. I want a phone that's able to make phone calls and maybe send/receive the occasional text. Voicemail and call display would be a plus. Being able to keep the same phone number is a big plus.

I've been looking at Koodo cause I really like the idea of no contract but don't really know of anyone on that network so I have no idea what their service would be like. Thoughts? Recommendations?

Koodo is based in the old Telus infrastructure, so as far as coverage and quality - you can't get any better.

Service-wise, it's probably the same old Telus, so hit and miss if you have to talk to anyone.

I can vouch for Telus. Theyre usually pretty good with the odd hiccup. A nice thing I find is that they're calling every 3 months or so to see how you're liking your plan, and if they can save you money. I had a bad case with my Dare but I blame the handset more than the company.

I've had nothing but good with Rogers and bad with Telus, but to each their own. I used to have Fido and really liked it.

I have been with Telus for about 4 years now and have liked it. The customer service has been fine, but I rarely use any customer service.

Before that I had Telus, at a time when I was often in Rural Alberta, so maximum coverage was the most important factor. Now that I spend most of the time in major cities, Fido (/Rogers) is fine and I never have coverage problems.

I just re-upped with Fido at the end of December and moved from basic cell phone to a iPhone. The one complaint that I have about doing that is that different CSR's seemed to be able to offer different retention plans depending on what "mood" they happened to be in. I did ok in the end, but did have someone tell me that they got the same plan but with more data for the same price.

Also, tonight was the first night I've been at Dome since getting the iPhone. The 3GS coverage inside the Dome seemed really crappy. It was there, but was as slow as molasses. Maybe just so many people using it in a confined space, or maybe the concrete building? I dont know if Telus has better 3GS coverage in the Dome...

I was initally with Telus, no issues with reception or anything but their phones flat out stink. Their interface is a huge killer, not being able to put music/custom ring tones or do anything with the phone was annoying.

I'm with Bell now and they seem pretty good to me.

I hear Koodoo and Virgin are pretty decent, but none of my friends/family have them so I can't really comment on them.

Wow. Was with Telus for 3 years and I can honestly say I never got a call like that. Ever.

I've been with rogers for the last 6 years and everything has been fine. I was with telus prior to that and had a lot of problems.
