There is one down the street from me for sale, actually it belongs to a friends step mom. It's purple-ish with a freshly done red-ish vinyl interior. I've rode it in so I know it runs but we did have to push start it first In it's defense it was cold and the battery simply died...
I don't know the year but I have a camera phone picture of it so if you PM me your email address I can send it to you.

i will, but i also want to invest a little into it, to ensure it's as road worthy as possible to begin with. i'm looking right now at a place in new mexico that fully restores buses....they might be a last resort.

They look great, but I don't think I've ever seen one without a pool of oil under the rear end.

These are my dream "cars". I think I want the same type as you as well, with the twin window in the front.
I would also like either the full sunroof thing, or a roof rack (you could technically have both).
I think I would go typical black bottom with a white top.
Here is a model image I found with Google Image:

I've got a '67 13 window I started restoring a couple of years ago (on hiatus now 'cause of $$ and waning interest). Where in New Mexico are you looking? I'm about a half hour from NM. I'd love to road trip my splitty some day, but it only does about 50 mph...down hill, with a good breeze behind it. If your serious about going cross country, I'd get a '70's something bay window that you won't mind beating up on and possibly abandoning on the side of the road.

I'm not sure if you're looking for specifically the ones you put up on those links, but my brother has a VW Westfalia for sale right now. I'm not sure of the year but I know it was fitted with a 93 Jetta engine. If it's something that might interest you, let me know. If not, disregard this message.

i've been looking at 'catch the bus' for a restore. they are located in alamogordo, nm. they appear to do a great job at restoring older buses. it looks like you get, virtually, a new bus. i want a 67 or older because i love the look and am not really wanting a pop top (68 and newer).
they have a big discrepancy on prices for different years. a 64-67 will run $25k for a base price, where a 68+ starts around $16k. so what i am trying to find is a 67 or earlier that is in good running shape, but maybe needs some interior or a little body work. good mechanically is the prime objective.
could you post some pictures or yours? i would love to see it.

I'll post some pics tomorrow, I don't have any on this computer. I bought all of the replacement metal to fix the rust on my bus, but haven't done the body work yet. I got my '67 for $800 five years ago, so there are some good deals out there if you look around long enough.
