25 years ago before the internet was common and there were hundreds of TV channels (let along specific news channels) these sort of things were happening. But today when it happens you hear about it almost immediately (tweets, rss, breaking news, satellite coverage) and in very sensationalized means ("This can happen to you - how to protect yourself coming up after the break").

Yes, it is sad, but please try to maintain perspective.

Pretty horrible stuff, and arsehole-type replies from some of you. I'm not going to Flip out, but it's not really something to be joking around about, IMO.

Well honestly, with some of the crap I have seen in other threads this is pretty mild.
It is not a joke about the disasters, just about the posts that say it is El Nino. It was not meant in bad taste, so put your blouse back on.

A) This is not a comparative study. Other threads are irrelevant.

B) Did I single you out? Your post wasn't even up when I started my reply.

So maybe make sure your blouse is on and buttoned up before jumping to conclusions.

LOL! My shirt is just fine thank you! Relax..... This is only the internet...

On topic:

It is very sad that these things are taking place, but there is going to be more, this is only the beginning.

When we were discussing 9/11, and the WWF ad of all the planes flying into the World Trade Centre, that, although distasteful, is accurate. What I mean is that it was a terrible event, but you look at how many people were killed in the Tsunami of 2004... it pales in comparison. That is NOT to take away or to belittle 9/11 in anyway, I just mean that the perspective of the number of lives lost...

Human life is so valuable, and the loss of which is so devastating, even at the loss of one.

So far North America has been spared... but our time is coming too.

This is sad.
I was walking into the LA Times building near LA City Hall in 1984 when I saw an older, white-haired guy wearing a sandwich board that said: "The World Is Going To End."

From his grave, I guess he's probably pretty happy that he's finally going to be right.

That is terrible stuff, not to take this the wrong way but stuff like this makes me glad I have a continental climate. Sure we get colder winters.. but at least around here we don't have to deal with this kind of stuff.

That is the thing. People wish they lived in tropical countries... but there is an advantage to only visiting such places.

It is so sad... but to think things like that can't happen here in Alberta, well, they can. Maybe not the same things. Tornados, fires, etc.

Be thankful we live where we do, and pray for those who are suffering.
