Do you cringe when you see someone walking around with a coffee? Energy drinks have just as much caffiene in them as a cup of coffee, the main source of energy from energy drinks.
"The central ingredient in most energy drinks is
caffeine, the same stimulant found in
coffee or
tea, often in the form of
guarana or
yerba mate.
The average 237 milliliter (8 fluid ounce) energy drink has about 80 mg of
caffeine, with 480 mL (16 fl. oz.) drinks containing around 150 mg."
A cup of coffee has 90-150mg. Also coffee doesn't have vitamins in it.
The other active ingredient found in energy drinks is taurine."
Taurine occurs naturally in food, especially in seafood and meat. The mean daily intake from omnivore diets was determined to be around 58 mg (range from 9 to 372 mg) and to be low or negligible from a strict vegan diet. 43 In another study taurine intake was estimated to be generally less than 200 mg/day, even in individuals eating a high meat diet. According to another study, taurine consumption was estimated to vary between 40 to 400 mg/day.
[9]"
"Taurine is used as a
functional food in many
energy drinks and
energy products.
[10] Despite being present in many energy foods, it has not been proven to be energy-giving. A study of mice hereditarily unable to transport taurine suggests that it is needed for proper maintenance and functioning of
skeletal muscles.
[11] Additionally, it has been shown to be effective in removing fatty liver deposits in rats, preventing liver disease, and reducing
cirrhosis in tested animals.[12][13] "
The worst part about energy drinks is the sugar but for those of us who drink a normal amount and/or sugar free its not a problem.
Thats all I can write right now.
