quick attractions in Calgary & area
ok I have 2 friends (a couple) coming on a trip through western Canada from Germany and they are staying at my place for one night at the end of this month. (in south Calgary)
she asked me to suggest things to do, I am wondering what possible things are that they can do, close by as they don't have a car (so i could drive or they could take transit).
they have an afternoon and evening then take off the next day.
so what would you suggest to an out of towner for one day/night? (they aren't club hoppers so clubs are no good)

They'll like Heritage Park. Most Germans seem to like playing Cowboys & Indians, and everything associated with that.

They might like to see a factory or industrial park. At least that's what they seem to watch on TV - documentaries about factories dominate German televison.

When I was an exchange student in Germany everyone would always ask me about RVing, it was like every German's goal in life to come to Canada and go RVing around everywhere, I guess I could understand it though.

True. I've worked with old Germans in a steel foundry, and their favorite thing to do was to tell us how we did everything wrong, and how "if zees waz in ze homeland eet wouldn't werk"
Take them to a factory of some sorts, and let them feel superior when they tell you how inefficient it is.
Beer is always an option too though, I hear they like that.

Ah the irony: Those Germans throughout history have always started out as cowboys but ended up as Indians

Heritage Park, Fish Creek Park are the only things I can think of that satisfy all of your criteria.

How about something like the Big Rock Brewery tour? I've never been, but I've always wanted to go.
Fish Creek would be good if you are down south and the weather is nice.
You could send them downtown and get them to go up the Calgary Tower and check out the Glenbow Museum. Depends if they like that sort of thing.

I went on the tour thursday, it was very well done. I highly recommend it. I wrote about it in the beer thread which I bumped.

Not mentioned yet...
Fort Calgary, Olympic Plaza(Steven Avenue - Prince's Island), Rafting down the Bow, Zoo, COP, Calgary Tower.
Further out... Kananaskis, find a U-pick place and pick some berries, Horseback riding in Bragg Creek/Canmore/Banff.

And while you are at it, take them to see the Big Rock outside of Okotoks.

They only have the afternoon/evening and will probably not want to go hiking after traveling. I would suggest either the Zoo or Heritage Park, I usually just hang out downtown - go up the tower, eat somewhere else downtown, walk around PIP. For me, that is normally what happens when friends from out of town come.

Every visitor we have ever had has loved the Calgary Tower. The 'Walk of Faith' (or whatever it is called - the glass floor bit - is fun to do.

I've heard its really big. Plus there is a "Magnetic Hill" out in that neck of the woods, too.
If you're going for the obscure sites, that is.
