Geez Louise. Ordonez is a good player but that's too much, way to much. I suspect he got that bag of cash because he was the last high profile free agent available. Good job by his agent to manage the process, but dear god baseball is all kinds of messed up.

From TSN.ca

This is a bit interesting

Under the complicated deal, Detroit would have the right to void the contract after the 2005 season if Ordonez has a reoccurrence of the left knee injury that hampered his production with the Chicago White Sox for most of last year and the reoccurrence lands him on the disabled list for 25 days or more.

If his knee is that bad then he could be out of Detriot very quickly. 25 days is not that long as well.

Well lets face it the Tigers have been a very hurting Baseball franchise for 15+ years now. They went after Juan Gonzalez years ago and offered him a whack of cash, but he didn't go for it. They haven't developed squat for players, and until Pudge Rodriguez went there last year hadn't signed any significant players for years. I'm sure they're willing to overspend to get anything going that might bring back some glory to a franchise steeped in tradition. The sad thing is that the AL Central is the poorest division in Baseball and the fact that they haven't been able to compete in that division is well....pathetic. Too bad, they have a nice ballpark, and as a kid growing up in the 80's watching the Jays I always loved watching those games in Tiger stadium where all those upper deck homeruns were hit.
