Anyone interested in travel to Mongolia?
Here is the deal. I live in Mongolia with my wife and daughter. My wife is Mongolian and my girl half and half ( I am Canadian).
My wife has asked me to try and find someone from Canada who would be interested in living with us for a few months. Preferably a female.
The idea being that this person would spend time with my wife and child (2 yrs old) and help them learn English. Why dont I teach them?.. cause I suck at it, and spend allot of time at work.
The person would be given a nice room in our place, and I would even consider paying a small salary.
Mods, if this sounds weird, or is an inapropriate topic please delete.

I can't help you with that, but I couldn't remember who Kid Hee-haw was for a moment until I remember Ms. and Ms. Pronger.
I will ask - what's it like in Mongolia? Do you live in Ulan Bator? I assume you're with a North American oil company or something similar; is there much else going on there?

Aw man, if this had come up last year at this time I would have been all over it, as I was debt free, and could have just took a sabbatical from work. Unfortunately now I have some debt which needs to be paid off again, so isn't feasible for me right now. Also I'm not a female, last time I checked

Sorry guys, just returned from a short trip to Beijing.
Mongolia- A former communist state of Russia. Completely independent since 1991. the 90's was a really tough time for the country as they had to do everything themselves after the russians left. This meant that banking, food supplies, and most everything had to be done in country without the help of the USSR.
Begining in the late 90's things started to improve. Foriegn investment started to trickle in. Mining companies (mostly Canadian) have since invested almost a billion $'s, making Canada the second largest foreign investor to date, after Russia.
Last year Canada finally opened a full fledged Embassy here in Ulan Bataar.
The Mongolians have a long history of hatred towards China. After Chingis Khan (Ghengis) kicked their butts in the 13th century the mongolians ruled China for about 150 years. Since then, the Chinese have not been to kind to the Mongols...
I believe Killer_Carlson had a trip here a few years ago and overall didnt enjoy it... Summer is obviously the best time to come as the winter is a bit harsh.
I find the Mongolians to be very friendly, and after 12 years of living here I have had only minor problems, probably less than if I had been home. allot of tourists come here for the eco-tourism thing. Not my cup of tea, but each to their own.
Pretty much anything is available now. Long gone are the days of only bread and boiled mutton. The bars are good, and the females better...( for those single guys out there of course).
Any questions fire away, or if you would like more info in private feel free to pm me.

That's not correct, is it? Mongolia was under heavy influence of Russia (Soviet union) but it was never actually an integral part of it. On the other hand, I believe Mongol empire at its peak was the largest in the history of the mankind.

^That's what I thought. The Soviets defended Mongolia against the Japanese during WWII and the regime was favoured by Stalin but they were independent.
The Chinese did claim Mongolia at one time though.

My thoughts on Mongolia - and I didn't spend much time there, and this was about 9 years ago - was that it's one of the most gorgeous countries I've ever been to, in terms of the wide open spaces, beautiful plains and deserts, wonderful culture. Liked the food too. Ulan Bator was a bit of a dive, and is the least cosmopolitan capital city I've ever been in, but it did have a decent selection of international restaurants, everything is cheap. I did get pickpocketed there (an incident that long-time posters on the board will probably remember me posting about). If I had the opportunity (and I definitely do not right now), I'd love to go back and explore outside Ulan Bator much more, and also use it as a jumping off point to go to Lake Baikal, just across the border in Russia.

It's only for a couple of months, let's just call it a rental.
