With 10 options to choose from, I suspect we'll see a lot more vote-splitting between the 2-3 really deserving films, leaving the door open for a comparitively poorer candidate to win.

Congratulations, Academy, you've just opened the door for the Ed Stelmach or Stephane Dion of films to be named Best Picture.

i hope so. there are some pretty good "non mainstream movies" out there...so i have heard

Great. More airtime and kudos for an expanded group of movies that 99% of the general public never have or will or have any interest what-so-ever in seeing.

Now they are going to include movies such as Wall-E and the Dark Knight (movies that most of the general public think of as the years best movies) in the balloting so they can get the viewership to stop plummeting get stomped out by indie movies they have never heard of. Go Academy!!

Most years there aren't even 5 movies I would consider for "Best Picture". In general, there are 2-3 excellent films, 4-5 good ones, and a bunch of horrific dreck I could make myself if I had the money and inclination.
