Default Q9550 Quad Processor for $249.99

Hey All,

Just bought my own but if anyone is looking to upgrade their processor this is a killer deal. NCIX.com is having a $249.99 plus free express shipping for the Q9550 Quad Processor 2.83ghz w/ 12mb cache.

Equally if you don't like ordering from there Memory Express has this processor on for $279.99.

I have a feeling these will move fast so I am presenting it to the CP Group.

I believe Memory Express would match their price too. I think.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up! I'm just about to pull the trigger on a brand new rig and this seems like a damn goodl place to start.

What's the word on MOBO's these days? Buidling a good high end gamin rig that I want to future proof as much as possible for under 2K.

Good price, but I don't think there's enough of a difference from my Q6600 to upgrade. Correct me if I'm wrong though...

GoinAllTheWay,

I am currently building a Q9550 Quad Core 2.83ghz w/ 12mb cache, Asus P5Q Deluxe Motherboard (there is better like a DDR3 board if you want longevity), Radeon 4870 1ghz 770 Mhz Clock Speed Video Card, 4GB of ram (whatever works mine is G.Skill), Antec Nine Hundred Two Gaming Case. I am purchasing all of this for under $1,000 Canadian as well as using my 500GB Sata HD, DVD Burner Optical and 600W Power Supply from my existing machine.

That is a great place to start. That Asus Board is very nice for cooling as well that Case is fantastic for cooling aswell.

That is the spec sheet on the Q6600.

You would notice a difference, but like you said (and I am no pro) I am not sure how much of a difference there would be. You are lacking in the FSB, Cache, Ghz, 65nm compared to a 45nm, Transistors and a few other things i don't know enough about.

Wow, that's not bad. In the past I tried to re-use as many parts as possible to keep costs down. I want to go brand new all around this time though as my current gaming rig is going to get a couple terabyte drives and turn into my new home server.

Is it just me or are cases exploding in choice these days? Some sweet ones on ME that I want to get for my new rig, may even buy a 2nd one and take all the parts out of my current rig and install into that. Current case has way to many LED lights and such, I want it to sit in a dark corner and be nice and quiet.

Tempting, the Q9550 does use quite a bit less power than the Q6600, and my Q6600 seems to be a dud OC wise.

Lol I was thinking to go and try to pricematch at Memory Express, but the # left keeps going down every time I refresh! I wouldn't make it in time lol.

Here's some info if you're concerned about overclocking

Quote:
This is not a review but a request to all people reviewing this product. Please list whether you recieved C1 Stepping or E0 stepping.

You can find this information on the side of the box, it will be version SLAWQ if it is C1 stepping. It will be SLB8V if it is E0 stepping.

Newegg won't tell us which version we are buying, so we rely on people who have already purchased this processor to tell those of us who are thinking of buying it what version Newegg is shipping out.

It is important because the E0 will be better for overclocking. Thanks!Cons: Newegg won't tell us which stepping their processor is!
Not that I know if this concern is legitimate or not.

Yeah I looked around a bit before buying this, and even the C1 stepping isn't terrible, just isn't as good. I'll see what I get.
