Default Blocking torrent trackers?

Here...

http://thebeehive.info/p/tlist.htm,

...you can find a huge list, 150 pages worth actually....of what are supposedly torrent trackers.

Would it actually block torrent traffic if they were added to a blacklist?

It would temporarily block torrent traffic. They would all change IP or slightly change their name and be back in a few days.

Even then, there are trackerless torrents now. They would become the norm is torrent trackers were all blocked.

Yeah that should work if you blacklist those sites at a firewall that all internal computers have to go through. Why do you want to block torrent traffic?

I don't.

Just wondering if there is a way to do if with OpenDNS.

Yeah, if OpenDNS has the ability to blacklist URLs or IPs then that would do it.

Until the person overrode their DNS settings with another DNS server, or edited the hosts file and added the tracker back in.

To combat trackerless torrents you'd have to do some kind of packet inspection.

Even that is tough since most torrent clients can require their traffic to be encrypted, so no intermediaries could know exactly what the traffic is.

I know Rogers in some areas tries to solve that by throttling ALL encrypted traffic - email and everything was caught in that net.
