Hello CP Faithful,

I need a website built. Plain and simple!
I've tried and I am defeated. I can't wrap my head around this stuff.

So, here's what I need:

I need a five page website built.
I have sample websites that can be used as an idea generator.
The website needs to be exciting. The kinda place where you want to continue to look and interact with. Vibrant colours.
I need a form built into the website that will email to me. I will provide details.
I dont want flash or anything fancy. I can provide the ideas and most of the text even. I need someone with a bit of an artistic flair and someone that knows how to build a basic website.
last but not least, I dont have a lot of money to spend on it. I suspect someone who knows what they are doing, probably wont need more than an hour or two to build it.

oh and I already have the domain secured and a place to host it.

He's building my website. Well, sorta. I stopped him when the building industry started to crash, but he'll be finishing it when I give him the green light. He's good.

There are also a heap of template sites out there for a 5 page brochure site but Armadillo will actually give you local service, do the heavy lifting for you, and give you something to exactly meet your needs.

Are you making a website for the public to view your vehicle inventory? If so, I have some ideas, if not, disregard the rest of this post! As you know, I build custom software and not websites, but do have ideas that you may or may not have thought of.

Make the site easy to browse. Being that you want people to 'window' shop your vehicle inventory, make it really easy to do that. Try and show a price, kms, model and a decent picture at a high level, and show lots of these on one screen. The picture is important, because people who are looking for a few specific models look for them by picture, like flipping through an autotrader. Beyond that, have a good search option for people looking for a specific car (and make sure you populate those search fields for every vehicle on the back end).

Something that shows a lot of cars at once, and doesnt take long to load a detailed view of each car. When I am looking through auto sites, I'm gone if something takes around a second to view the up close picture of a car I am interested in.

Check out the one I made for our football team. www.airdriestorm.com . It is not too Fancy but they have templates that you can click and drop into. costs 80.00$ a year.

Could you give us a ballpark on what "not a lot of money" means?

I can't speak for c.t.ner or any of the other web guys out there but any website that you're going to be happy with will take more than one or two hours to create.

I would tend to agree with this, especially since it sounds like you'll need some graphics designed. Unless your designer is using a pre-existing template and just putting your content into it.

oh sure, guys.
I have a budget of about $400-$500.00 to play with, the lessor the better.
I dont think there will be any 'major' graphics to play with. I have already done a "doc" mockup of the site and the only graphics per say are pictures only.
there will be one page that will require a form being built.

Google has a really good hosting & content creation tool, Google Sites. You can whip together content really quickly. Best of all, it is free.

I don't know how to build a form with Google Sites, but it can do basic stuff very well. If you want, you can get someone to build you a form and you can plunk it in fairly easily.

EDIT: I just did a quick search, and found this info on creating a form.

EDIT #2: I just created a quick form just to see how it was done. Holy fata, that was easy. Automatic dump of the results into a spreadsheet and you can get email updates when there is new information.

If you use Shaw, you can also do a quick website on your shaw account. They have some pre-set templates but you can also upload your graphics. http://shawwebspace.ca/

I used Godaddy.com for mine. You know the really annoying superbowl commercials? well one stuck and the template and address was only 80.00 per year. I have been very happy so far with it.

If it's a business site, I would personally stay away from obvious templates. Some site I go to I can tell within seconds it's some crappy template.
