Backyard Mechanics: What is wrong with my truck?
OK, so I have a 2006 GMC Sierra, it has 210000km on it (mostly highway, the truck is well taken care of, oil changes on the 5000's, regular maintenance, washes underneath ect...)
A few months ago, I noticed a puddle of tranny fluid underneath the very front edge of the truck (right under the radiator), and checked it out. Turns out there is a leaking trans-cooler line fitting running from the radiator to the transmission (according to the tranny shop, its a notorious problem on these trucks).
The problem is still not fixed, but the leak has slowed (it's due in the shop next week, I was just told to carry some fluid with me in case it got low, and check it when I gas up, which I have done religioiusly).
Today, I go to drive and the thing, and I back out of my parking spot, shift from R to D like normal, and the thing shifts HARD, like harder than I've ever felt it do, even up a steep hill or something. I thought it was weird, but maybe I was backing out a little quicker than normal and it slammed into drive (like drop shifting when you do a burnout in your moms buick). I start down the road, and it won't shift out of first. My engine rev's don't come up, and it feels like it's making no power at all.
On the way home, it worked just fine, but I thought it very strange to do this. The fluid levels are up, well within normal, and there is nothing indicating an overheating issue on the dash guages.
Any ideas anyone?
